Job Summary

 

The Head Men's Basketball Coach provides strategic leadership and oversight of a competitive NCAA Division II men's basketball program. The position is responsible for building a championship-caliber team culture, driving enrollment through intentional recruiting, ensuring academic success and student-athlete development, managing program resources responsibly, and cultivating strong alumni, donor, and community engagement.

The Head Coach must operate with integrity and full compliance with NCAA, SIAC, University System of Georgia (USG), and institutional policies while serving as a visible ambassador for Albany State University Athletics.

Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

 

• Program Leadership: Provide strategic direction and daily oversight of the men's basketball program, establishing a culture of accountability, discipline, and competitive excellence.

• Recruiting & Retention: Develop and execute a recruiting plan aligned with institutional enrollment goals; recruit and retain academically qualified student-athletes.

• Coaching & Player Development: Plan and conduct practices, implement offensive and defensive systems, and support the holistic development of student-athletes.

• Academic Oversight: Monitor academic progress and collaborate with campus partners to promote retention and graduation success.

• Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure full compliance with NCAA, SIAC, USG, and institutional policies.

• Budget & Operations: Manage program budget, scheduling, travel, and equipment in a fiscally responsible manner.

• Fundraising & External Engagement: Support fundraising initiatives, alumni relations, and community engagement efforts to enhance program visibility and revenue generation.

• Staff Supervision: Supervise and mentor assistant coaches and support staff.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree.

3 to 5 years of collegiate coaching experience (head or assistant).

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Master's degree.
• Experience supporting fundraising and community engagement initiatives.
• Experience recruiting in alignment with institutional enrollment goals.
• Head coaching experience

Proposed Salary

 

Salary is commensurate with experience and training.
