The Junior Varsity Basketball Head Coach is responsible for leading and managing the Aquinas College JV Men’s Basketball team while supporting the overall mission and culture of the Aquinas Basketball program.
This position focuses on player development, academic accountability, and preparation of student-athletes for potential advancement within the varsity program.
Primary Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Competition
· Coach approximately 20 junior varsity games during the season.
· Plan and lead team practices 4–5 days per week.
· Organize structured practices focused on skill development, team concepts, and program systems.
Player Development
· Develop individual basketball skills and fundamentals.

· Develop individual basketball skills and fundamentals.
· Teach and reinforce team concepts and program terminology consistent with the varsity program.
· Coordinate individual workouts to help players continue to grow and stay engaged with the program.
Academic Support and Accountability
· Maintain weekly academic check-ins with 4–5 assigned student-athletes.
· Monitor and discuss:
o Academic progress in each class
o Assignments and coursework completion
o Returned grades and academic standing
o Attendance at required academic meetings or support sessions
o Assist with monitoring study table participation and academic accountability.
Program Support when able
· Assist with varsity practices and/or games
· Support the recruitment and identification of potential JV student-athletes.
· Assist with film breakdown and scouting reports as requested.
This position plays an important role in the development of student-athletes both academically and athletically, while contributing to the overall success and culture of the Aquinas Men’s Basketball program.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
· Previous coaching experience at high school and/or collegiate level preferred
· Strong communication and organizational skills
· Commitment to academic success and character development
· Ability to work evening and weekends during the season
Must demonstrate commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment for all student-athletes.
