This position promotes and supports the learning experience of Marian University students by developing and maintaining a competitive intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse program within compliance of Marian University, the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Teaching/Coaching – 50%
Responsible for in-game coaching.
Keeps informed of contemporary trends, tactics, techniques and strategies in coaching, which includes developing a philosophy of what to teach and how to implement. Provides coaching and direction to assistant coaches, as well as praise and constructive feedback.
Plans, implements and evaluates practice sessions. Communicates expectations, praise and corrective feedback in a clear and constructive manner.
Develops effective game plans. Prepares team physically, mentally and emotionally for competition; maintains and meets high expectations for team athletic success.
Instructs student-athletes on high expectations for academic achievement; monitors the academic progress of student-athletes.
Instructs student-athletes on high expectations for student-athlete social responsibility and works to develop well-rounded student-athletes.
Instructs student-athletes on a standard of proper student-athlete conduct, both in and out of the athletic arena and works with the Director of Athletics to sanction those who do not meet the set standard.
Instructs student-athletes on a standard of proper safety. Monitors condition of equipment and facilities, and reports items in need of repair/maintenance to Instructs student-athletes on a standard of proper student-athlete conduct.
Recruitment – 15%
With the assistance of the Director of Athletics, define and achieve annual enrollment goals of the men’s lacrosse program.
Develops and maintains a system to identify prospective student-athletes and to work closely with area high school and junior program coaches to recruit quality student-athletes.
Create a successful recruitment plan that includes a calendar, budget, contacts with prospective student athletes, and milestone check-in points.
Collaborate with offices and department around campus to ensure student success.
Program Development -15%
Develops and implements a program which includes monitored academic progress in addition to performance.
Organizes and coordinates all team travel.
Responsible for scheduling all future contests.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of NCAA, conference, and University rules and regulations. Conducts program in compliance with NCAA and Northern Athletics Conference rules and regulations and Marian University athletic policies.
Assists head strength & conditioning coach with strength and conditioning programs and provide skill instruction during season for competitive performance per sport.
Participate in clinics, exhibitions, and camps, as approved
Administrative – 15%
Manages all assistant coaches within the program(s).
Responsible for managing and monitoring the program budget under the direction of the Director of Athletics.
Assists the Director of Athletic Communications with statistics, press releases, and other publications
Assist in department fundraising activities
Maintains a positive work environment by cooperating in a professional manner with the University community
Strong ability to recruit student athletes in the context of NCAA Division III philosophy.
Successful intercollegiate coaching and/or playing experience.
Must have willingness to work nights and weekends.
Must demonstrate great organizational skills in addition to writing and typing skills, interpersonal skills, and superior leadership skills.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
