Job Description:

Longwood University invites applications for the position of Head Coach, Men's Soccer (GA168). The successful candidate will be responsible for all administrative and organizational aspects of the NCAA Division I Soccer Program within the mission of the University and its philosophy of intercollegiate athletics. The head soccer coach will hold academic requirements and pursuits as a matter of highest priority and will actively encourage student-athletes to succeed academically and acquire a degree. The head soccer coach will directly supervise all assistance coaches, players, and managers. The coach has overall responsibility for budget development, adherence, and administration; recruitment and retention of student-athletes; adherence to NCAA, conference and University regulations in regard to recruiting, admission standards and eligibility; monitoring student-athlete academic progress; the scheduling of athletic practices and contests; and the establishment of effective media relations. The head coach will assist in sports promotional and fundraising activities and serve as a representative of the University to the outside community.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

• Direct involvement with all administrative and organizational aspects of the NCAA Division I program under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Athletics
• Supervision of assistance coaches with delegated responsibilities for the overall maintenance of the program
• Supervision of all student-athletes in a coordinated and planned program of practices and competition, with a concern for the players' health and welfare, physical and psychological preparation
• In cooperation with the Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance and the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student Services, uphold all University academic policies and assist, when appropriate, in counseling student-athletes relative to academic success, progress and eligibility
• Maintain APR scores above NCAA requirements
• Enforce University and athletic department policies and regulations regarding the use/abuse of alcohol and drugs by team members
• Foster and maintain positive student body and faculty relations with student-athletes
• Recommend to the Assistant Director of Athletics and the Associate Director of Athletics for Business, an annual budget for the program and operate within the approved budget
• Work closely with the Equipment Manager to purchase, distribute, and manage inventory of uniforms and equipment
• Responsibility for all team and individual travel, meals, and lodging with prompt resolution of accounts
• Prepare and organize a representative schedule for approval by the Assistant Director of Athletics and Director of Athletics. Consideration should be given to the academic life of student-athletes, i.e., missed class time, examination periods and other factors that would adversely affect their academic success as per department policy
• Participation in public relations, promotion and fundraising activities as conducted by the University and/or department
• Maintain professional growth
• Assist in conference, regional and national events hosted by the University
• Assist in the organization of any team and/or department awards presentations to student-athletes
• Establish and maintain positive relations with the media
• Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes for admission to the University with adherence to admissions and athletic department policies and procedures
• Knowledge of adherence to all University, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations, policies and procedures, with special attention to recruiting, eligibility, admissions, and financial aid
• Make recommendations annually to the Associate Director of Athletics for Business and Director of Financial Aid for the awarding of Athletic Grants-in-Aid for both new and continuing student-athletes
• Overall responsibility for girls'/womens' soccer camps and clinics
• Work with Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities and Operations and with Assistant Director of Sports Camps in setting prices for camps. Responsible for all hiring and conduct of staff
• In conjunction with Assistant Director of Camps, set all camp dates and reserve all sites
• Ensure all necessary human resource paperwork, including background checks, is completed timely
• Ensure safety of all campers while on campus and consult directly with Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities and Operations on any behavior or safety concerns
• Responsible for recruitment of campers and overall budget for camps
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• Master's Degree or Bachelor's Degree with equivalent training and work experience in a higher education setting
• Work experience at a NCAA Division I University preferred with experience coaching soccer
• Knowledgeable of camp and clinic development programs
• Ability to schedule future games with opposing teams
• Demonstrated skill in teaching, coaching, and mentoring others
• Must be able to travel for extended periods of time for athletic and recruiting events
• Must be able to perform physical activities associated with the sport of baseball
• Must be able to meet the University eligibility requirements to drive fleet vehicles, including passenger vans and/or mini buses
• Must have a valid driver's license

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits accompany this position.
