PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Under minimal supervision, directs, provides leadership, and oversees all coaching duties for an intercollegiate Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Program operating under NCAA operating bylaws and regulations. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletic competitions, and oversees the planning and fiscal management of program activities. The University participates in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (“SIAC”).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Organizes, prepares, and conducts individual and team practices, training, and competition.
• Recruits student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations through scouting, attending tournaments, and home visits.
• Directs all aspects, areas, and components of the Men’s and Women’s volleyball teams (i.e.; defense, offense, or various individual positions).
• Coordinates all strategic aspects of the Men’s and Women’s volleyball programs.
• Represents sports programs to various institutional programs and externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public.
• Manages daily operations of the athletic program; directs, supervises, and coordinates all administrative facets.
• Oversees all aspects of the financial operations of the Men’s and Women’s volleyball programs.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree with more than 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the game of Volleyball.
• Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
• Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
• Ability to lead and guide Division II student-athletes in Men’s and Women’s volleyball programs.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
• Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
• Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

• This position does not have any supervisory responsibility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

• Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• Moderate physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 20 pounds or some standing and/or walking. Effort applies to no more than six (6) hours per day.
• The work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
