This is a full-time, 12-month Administrative & Professional Staff position, reporting to the Associate Vice President for Athletics Advancement and Delta Lodge Director of Athletics & Physical Education.
Apply NowThe Head Coach of Women’s Volleyball is responsible for all aspects of the women’s volleyball program along with being a relentless supporter of Oberlin College and its athletics department. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, recruiting of prospective students: build relationships with local, regional and national high school, junior college and club programs, as well as coaches and teaching professionals, to help in identifying prospective student-athletes, travel to evaluate in-person prospective student-athletes at various events, facilitate campus visits for prospective students and develop on-going dialogue that leads to their eventual enrollment. Develop and manage calendar of competitions and training sessions to maximize potential for competitive success. Organize individual plans for each training/practice session and assess outcomes, communicating regularly with student-athletes, placing the individuals and the team in the best possible position for success. Lead team during competitions. Develop the annual operating budget for the program. Manage the operating budget over the course of the year following all institutional guides for purchasing and reimbursement. Create an annual competition schedule. Organize all team travel (and lodging, if necessary) to off-campus competitions. Order, inventory and distribute necessary equipment and uniforms for team training sessions and competitions. The program will be conducted in compliance with policies, procedures and regulations of the College, the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).The incumbent will also have secondary administrative duties surrounding game day operations: hosting and communicating expectations of visiting teams, securing officials, and overall management of games/tournaments/matches.Teaching responsibilities within the physical education curriculum and/or wellness programming require instruction of at least one accredited course per semester/module. Oberlin College is a highly selective, private, liberal arts institution with a world-renowned Conservatory of Music.
• Bachelor’s degree required, a master’s degree preferred• Five years coaching experience• Excellent oral and written communication skills• Desire to work within a high academic environment with an appreciation and empathy with the role of intercollegiate athletics and its relationship to the College and the capacity to articulate that connection• Demonstrated recruiting and retention success at a high academic institution• Solid administrative skills with the ability to communicate and motivate staff to achieve administrative goals• Willingness to interact comfortably with individuals and constituency groups that are crucial to the advancement of the women’s volleyball program along with the department and greater institution• Lead and instruct physical education classes and/or wellness programming• Comply with College, NCAC Conference, and NCAA guidelines, policies and regulations.
