Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 2-5 years of experience as a coach, participant or related role
• Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail
• Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships
• Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt’s core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors
• A positive and professional demeanor is a must
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior head coaching experience
• Recruiting experience at the college level
• Prior coaching experience at the NCAA Division II or Division I level

Basic office equipment (desktop computer, copier/ multi-function device, fax and telephone).

Working Conditions

The Head Coach will work in multiple environments, including areas for team practice, competition and recruiting, in addition to an office setting. The Head Coach’s schedule will include nights and weekends and travel with team for competitions, as well as for prospective student recruitment and other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions

| Duty and Responsibility |
Student-Athlete Engagement and Academic Success:

• Oversee the academic progress of student-athletes within the program.
• Assist students with issues that can be barriers to retention and eventual graduation.
• Develop programming that builds character in areas outside of the athletic arena to provide a well-rounded college experience.

Competition and Practice Management::

• Develop and manage calendar of competitions and training sessions to maximize potential for competitive success.
• Organize individual plans for each training/practice session and assess outcomes, communicating regularly with student-athletes, placing the individuals and the team in the best possible position for success.
• Lead team during competitions.

| Duty and Responsibility |
Student-Athlete Recruitment:

• Build relationships with local, regional and national high school, junior college and club programs and coaches to help in identifying prospective student-athletes.
• Travel to evaluate in-person prospective student-athletes at various events.
• Facilitate campus visits for prospective students and develop on-going dialogue that leads to their eventual enrollment.

Program Management:

• Develop the annual operating budget for the program. 
• Manage the operating budget over the course of the year following all institutional guides for purchasing and reimbursement. 
• Create annual competition schedule. 
• Organize all team travel to off-campus competitions.
• Order, inventory and distribute necessary equipment and uniforms for team training sessions and competitions. 
• Ensure program is compliant with national athletic association and athletic conference policy guidelines.
