Position Summary: Primary responsibility of this position is to direct and supervise the strength and fitness for our student-athletes. This appointment is 10 months from August 1-May 31.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the Strength Program for all athletic programs in conjunction with the respective coaching staff.Manage and supervise all aspects of the strength and conditioning programs for teams.Provide instruction in technique and safety procedures in adherence with NCAA regulations.
On-site supervision of Rice / Fitness Center student workers. Observe and implement the policies of identification of Rice / Fitness Center users as well as all other Rice / Fitness Center policies and procedures. Oversee the hiring, training, work performance, and evaluation of student workers for the event management team.
Hire, train, schedule and evaluate all student workers. Work with other areas on campus to develop and implement fitness and wellness programming for the campus community.
Work and collaborate with Assistant Director of Athletics - Sports Medicine & Performance in scheduling, maintaining and supervision of Rice / Fitness Center Contact appropriate campus service building repair providers for assistance when immediate needs are required.
Other Functions:
Responsible for adherence to all NCAA, Northern Athletics (NACC) and institutional rules and regulations, including eligibility and compliance of student athletes, medical hardship documentation and extension waivers.
Adherence to all Benedictine University and Department of Athletics policies and procedures.
Work independently and creatively within established guidelines, while at the same time functioning as a member of a team.
Attend departmental and University related meetings and events.
Maintain self-control and poise; provide an example of professional conduct for team members, officials, opponents and spectators.
Work in coordination with University offices and departments to coordinate and facilitate Program needs, serve on University, conference and national committees as needed.
Maintain high level of organization and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Maintain positive relationships with alumni, parents, students, officials, volunteers and fans.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
Experience: Experience in strength and conditioning of student athletes is desired.
Specific Skills: Knowledge of NCAA Division III philosophy, recruitment, rules and regulations.
Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications: Organizational skills, writing and typing skills, interpersonal skills, data entry and budget management skills and demonstrated supervisory skills. Valid driver’s license. Certification in Strength & Conditioning (NCSA or CSCS) or educational background that will prepare individual for certification. CPR/First Aid/ AED certification
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to handle varying levels of stress while maintaining professional demeanor. Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun/heat or cold weather.
Ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand. Understand the speech of another person.

Working Conditions: Indoor/Outdoor and Office environment; some nights and weekends required.
Training: As a University employee you are required to complete all University-specific and/or OSHA related training to fulfill your job duties. Specific training will be conducted online or in person. Employees must complete all trainings required by Benedictine University.
