Position Summary
|
The Strength & Conditioning Coach oversees the coordination, development, and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for Chaminade University student-athletes across 12 NCAA Division II teams, including five men’s sports and seven women’s sports.
This position supports student-athlete performance, conditioning, rehabilitation, injury prevention, and safe use of fitness center and weight room facilities in consultation with sports medicine staff. The Strength & Conditioning Coach designs individualized and team-based programs, teaches proper exercise and spotting techniques, manages daily weight room operations, and maintains compliance with NCAA, PacWest Conference, and institutional rules related to athletics and sports medicine.

Duties and Responsibilities
|
Strength & Conditioning Program Development and Implementation
• Coordinate, develop, and implement strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes across Chaminade’s NCAA Division II athletic teams.
• Design individualized and team-based conditioning programs for student-athletes, including programs specific to the needs of various team sports.
• Teach proper weight training, flexibility, speed development, conditioning, and injury-prevention techniques, with an emphasis on safe and correct execution.
• Analyze student-athlete movement, make appropriate corrections, and communicate adjustments clearly and effectively.
• Physically demonstrate weight training, flexibility, speed development, and related exercises to student-athletes.
• Physically demonstrate and teach effective spotting techniques.
Facility Operations and Student-Athlete Safety
• Oversee the daily operation of the fitness center and weight room facilities for student-athlete strength, conditioning, and rehabilitation programs under consultation with sports medicine staff.
• Manage, supervise, and control weight room operations.
• Establish and maintain policies and procedures that support daily operation and safety of the facility.
• Prioritize student-athlete safety and use appropriate techniques to help prevent injury.
• Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications or obtain them within 60 days of hire.
Compliance, Communication, and Administrative Responsibilities
• Maintain knowledge of and compliance with NCAA Division II, PacWest Conference, and institutional rules and regulations related to this position.
• Maintain basic knowledge of FERPA and appropriately protect confidential information.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, athletic training staff, and other University personnel verbally and in writing.
• Organize and prioritize work, take initiative, resolve problems, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Use Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Teamworks, and other sports- or academic/university-related computer programs as needed.
• Work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment to integrity.
• Set annual goals and work toward achieving them.

Education and Experience
|
Mi** nimum Education**
Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience and Skills
• Minimum of one year of experience as a coach, assistant coach, or intern in strength and conditioning.
• Prior experience in higher education is preferred.
• Certification in strength and conditioning by either the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) is required.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• Ability to communicate well with others, both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.
• Ability to design and implement appropriate strength and conditioning programs for various team sports, with an emphasis on teaching proper techniques to student-athletes.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work, take initiative, resolve problems, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent listening, verbal, written, interpersonal, and instructional communication skills.
• Ability to analyze movement, make corrections, and communicate effectively.
• Basic knowledge of and commitment to NCAA Division II rules, including sports medicine practices.
• Excellent knowledge of the strength and conditioning needs of the sports offered at Chaminade and appropriate techniques to prevent injury.
• Experience using Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and ability to learn specific sports and academic/university-related computer programs, including Teamworks.
• A demonstrated commitment to integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality, including basic knowledge of FERPA.
• Thorough knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations.
• Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s License and have the ability to pass a motor vehicle record check.
• Must pass the Chaminade University driver’s van test to transport teams and individuals and be cleared and approved to perform the related tasks.

Physical Requirements
|
Duties are performed primarily in athletic, fitness center, and weight room settings and require the physical ability to demonstrate strength training, flexibility, speed development, conditioning, and spotting techniques. The position requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, and moving throughout campus and athletic facilities. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand and must be able to observe, assess, and correct student-athlete movement and exercise technique.

Other Requirements
|
• This position is hired as an Independent Contractor on a one-year, renewable contract and is not benefit-eligible. Initial compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
• Must be willing and able to work a varying schedule, including occasional nights and weekends, based on athletic schedules, team needs, facility needs, and department workflow.
• Appointments are made based on evidence of experience, expressed interest, availability to perform the duties of a Strength & Conditioning Coach, willingness to be involved in all facets of the division, and an excellent work ethic.
• Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States and satisfactory completion of a background check, including a criminal records check.

• Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required.
• Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner.
