Chicago State University invites applications for the position of Head Coach, Women’s Basketball. This position reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the intercollegiate Women’s Basketball program. Additional responsibilities include: recruiting successful student-athletes; program planning; fiscal and personnel management; and community outreach. The successful candidate will be involved in additional duties as assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
• Supervises assigned Assistant Coaches to ensure compliance with applicable rules, policies and procedures; provides orientation, training and guidance as needed; conducts performance evaluations.
• Understands and follows National Collegiate Athletic Association (
NCAA
), athletic conference, and institutional regulations. Observes Head Coach Responsibility in the training, communication, and accountability of staff. Reports any violation of
NCAA
, athletic conference, and institutional regulations in accordance with
CSU
Athletics policies and procedures.
• Teaching/Coaching: Keeps informed of contemporary trends, tactics, techniques and strategies in coaching, which includes developing a philosophy of what to teach and how to implement. Provides coaching and direction to assistant coaches, as well as praise and constructive feedback.
• Leadership: seeks to foster a program culture that is based on servant leadership from the head coach and staff
• Plans, implements and evaluates practice sessions. Develops written team rules and expectations in accordance with
CSU
Athletics policies and procedures. Communicates expectations, praise and corrective feedback in a clear and constructive manner.
• Develops effective game plans. Prepares team physically, mentally and emotionally for competition; maintains and meets high expectations for team athletic success.
• Instructs student-athletes regarding expectations for academic achievement; monitors the academic progress of student-athletes in accordance with institutional and
CSU
Athletics policies and procedures.
• Instructs student-athletes regarding expectations for student-athlete social responsibility and conduct while working to develop well-rounded student-athletes institutional and

Athletics policies and procedures.
• Recruitment of Student-Athletes: Recruits and retains student-athletes through collaboration with the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (or designee) and institutional staff.
• Assists prospective student-athletes in understanding the educational programs and opportunities at Chicago State University and its athletic program in accordance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (
NCAA
), athletic conference, and institutional regulations.
• Prepares an end-of-season report and Assistant Coaches evaluations by the date designated by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. Schedules and completes an end-of-year review meeting with the Director of Athletics (or designee).
•Seeks opportunities to represent
CSU
Athletics on national and regional committees
• Adheres to institutional, athletic conference, and
NCAA
standards for sportsmanship.
• Adheres to fundraising strategies as required by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (or designee).
• Attends athletic department meetings, university community meetings, and functions.
• Handles confidential information with tact and discretion.
• Performs special and/or additional duties as required by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (or designee).
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required, plus a minimum of five years related experience; collegiate or professional coaching experience; Successful candidates for this position will be subject to a background investigation.

Master’s Degree
Preferred applicants will have experience as collegiate Head Coach
Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential functions.

Strong oral, presentation, and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with students, parents, staff, faculty, and external constituents of the college.
Knowledge of triathlon specific training software such as training peaks, etc.
Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to make effective decisions based on facts and sound judgment.
Self-directed, innovative and a strong problem solver in setting priorities and meeting goals.
Knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to
NCAA
rules and regulations.
Skill in coaching and/or competing as an athlete at the college, university, Elite Club, or Professional level.
Ability to adhere to and ensure compliance with
NCAA
and conference rules and regulations, and ability to lead and nurture a diverse student and administrative population.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently efficiently and effectively.
Ability to multitask, work effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability and willingness to continuously learn to improve coaching strategy and ability.
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
May need to help athletes complete key workouts by providing physical demonstrations
This position is subject to periods of sitting; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk/run moderate distances to perform work.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
