REPORTS TO: Director of Rugby
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for leading and guiding the team, overseeing training and competitions, and ensuring the success of the student-athletes as rugby enhances their experience at Fairfield University.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for the team’s preparations, growth, development, and competitions on the field. Responsible for planning and organizing all practices and games. Direct, organize, delegate to, and collaborate with the team’s assistant coaches. Able to differentiate coaching to players of varying levels of skill, experience, and interest. Work with the coaches in Walsh Athletic Center to design the team’s strength and conditioning. Collaborate with, coach, and mentor the team’s captains. Collaborate with, advise, and mentor the club’s officers in creating a positive and enthusiastic environment that emphasizes rugby ideals. Work with the Director of Rugby on the scheduling of practices and games. Assist the Director of Rugby with recruiting high school prospects. Assist in developing and/or maintaining all handbooks related to the team as a club sport. Responsible for ensuring that all competition-related equipment is maintained.
REQUIREMENTS:
Level 1 World Rugby Coaching Certification.
Level 2 World Rugby Coaching Certification obtained within 12 months after hiring.
U.S. Citizen requiring no authorization and sponsorship.
CPR First Aid/AED certification required – able to obtain after hiring.
CDC Heads Up Coaching Course – able to obtain after hiring.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Essential: BS or BA from accredited institution of higher education.
Desirable: MS or MA from accredited institution of higher education.
EXPERIENCE: Essential: 2-3 years of coaching experience.
Preferred: Experience coaching at the collegiate level. Experience coaching women.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES :
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Highly organized practice plans with emphasis on skill development, rugby strategy, and team-building.
Knowledge of the Laws of Rugby and its variations.
Knowledge of rugby best practices and trends.
Understanding of Captains and Officers for operations.
Knowledge of word-processing, media and communication applications, and other pertinent software.
Please note this is a part-time, non-benefit's eligible position.
