Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information
| Job Description Summary |
The Interim Head Coach has comprehensive responsibilities associated with the management of Chapman University’s women’s soccer program. Duties include coaching, teaching, recruiting, fundraising and other duties as assigned in support of the women’s soccer program. In addition, the coach is expected to provide an oversight of students, coaches and safe daily operation of all Chapman facilities. A flexible schedule and travel may be required. A successful candidate is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Chapman University, the SCIAC conference and NCAA.

| Responsibilities |
- Teach, coach, practice, and condition student athletes. Teach sport fundamentals and game strategies. Foster an educational and developmentally enriching environment for student-athletes to thrive and grow.
- Recruit, motivate and retain student athletes. Will work with administrators to determine student-athlete roster size limits. Work with our athletic training staff on the health and safety needs of our student athletes.
- Manage and communicate a yearlong calendar that includes traditional and non-traditional seasons. Develop daily practice plans, develop and oversee a competitive NCAA intercollegiate schedule. This includes providing safe and responsible travel to and from away competitions.
- Develop and manage an annual budget and oversee expenditures. Manage and maintain program facility, including partnering with others in the department to share common facility spaces.
- Commit to compliance with NCAA and SCIAC rules and regulations, including periodic departmental and conference meetings and training. Commit to adhering to university and departmental policies.
- Train and closely supervise assistant coaches, volunteer coaches and student workers for assigned sports and job responsibilities. Commit to professional growth and development opportunities as a member of recognized national coaching and sport organizations. Partner with University Advancement to develop and implement fundraising activities associated with assigned sports. Build and foster relationships with key volunteers, alumni, and parents.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Works with financial aid, medical services, academic support, judicial affairs, psychological services, student-athletes services, international programs, and compliance. Mandatory Campus Security Authority and Title IX Mandatory Reporters.

| Required Qualifications |
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proven ability to interpret and apply all relevant rules and regulations
- Familiarity with and insight into the issues confronting NCAA Intercollegiate Athletics in general and athletics at highly selective colleges in particular
- Technical expertise with assigned sports
- Coaching experience with assigned sports
- Proven success in recruiting, motivating and retaining student athletes
- Good organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative and exercise discretions and judgment on matters of significance

- Head coaching experience in assigned sport(s) preferred
- Ability to teach physical education courses
- Experience working in a higher education environment
- Knowledge of Chapman University policies and procedures
- Working knowledge of NCAA Division III and SCIAC rules and regulations; experience working in an NCAA Division III environment
