About the Position:

The Head Coach, Women's Soccer oversees and operates a Division I soccer program including recruiting student-athletes; organizing and training student-athletes for competition; monitoring and supporting the academic success of student-athletes; planning comprehensive pre-season and post-season conditioning programs; hiring, supervising and evaluating personnel; preparing and managing budgets and records; undertaking public relations and promotional activities appropriate to the position; and carrying out other relative administrative duties.

Responsibilities:

Teaching and Coaching:

• Actively supports the academic integrity of the University, keeping academics and achievement as the highest priority for the student-athlete;
• Utilizes sound teaching techniques in the conduct of games and practice sessions;
• Establishes a written set of aims, goals, objectives, and values for the program in consultation with the Sport Administrator and Athletic Director with an update and review each year;
• Establishes written policies, guidelines, and rules for the student-athletes that will be administered;
• Establishes written criteria on the process for team selection and retention;
• Develops a system of self-evaluation and evaluation of the student-athlete;
• Maintains a safe and healthy environment for the student-athletes;
• Effectively prepares and organizes pre-season conditioning programs, practice sessions, and game plans;
• Provides appropriate and necessary guidance, advising, and counseling for the players;
• Is familiar with the support services available at George Mason University that can be utilized to assist the students;
• Assists the Athletic Training Staff in performing their assigned functions and abide by all medical policies and decisions;
• Maintains professional and appropriate conduct of behavior for self, staff and student-athletes; and
• Effectively recruits the best student-athlete within the admissions, financial and regulatory constraints established by the University, A-10, and NCAA.

Department, University, Conference and NCAA Compliance:

• Understands and assures that the Head Coach and his/her staff and the student-athletes abide by all the University, Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10), and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Rules and Regulations;
• Abide by the rules of confidentiality;
• Understands and establishes proper procedures of due process in dealing with the student-athlete and staff;
• Follows the administrative procedures established by the University and published in the Department Staff Handbook; and 
• Follows established University Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity guidelines in the hiring of Assistant Coaches. 

Fundraising and Program Administration:

• Participates in fundraising efforts and special events including alumni, development, and public relations as well as state and local communities, to actively enhance a positive image of the University;
• Effectively plans, prepares, and administers the budget with the Senior Associate Athletic Director;
• Consults with the Senior Associate Athletic Director in charge of scheduling in all matters of scheduling contests and facilities; and
• Cooperates with and assists the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information and outside media to provide the best possible sports information service and program image. 

Ensures Assistant Coaches act as Team Liaison to:

• Equipment office staff to purchase, issue, monitor and control all team equipment;
• Business Office on program operations, logistics, planning, and team travel; and
• Academic Services (study hall and tutoring). 

Other Duties:

• Performs other duties as requested by the Assistant Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics or Sport Administrator. 

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree, or any combination of bachelor’s degree, training, certification and work experience that equates to the advanced degree;
• Working knowledge of NCAA and Conference (A10) rules and regulations;
• Experience organizing, developing, and executing recruitment plans;
• Physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students;
• Ability to travel and work weekends and holidays;
• Valid Driver’s License; must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator’s license that meets all of GMU’s requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason’s Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/poli... • CPR certification required, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of recruitment techniques and proven ability to bring in high-level prospects.
