SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Coach of Cross Country and Track is responsible for the comprehensive organization, development, and management of the men's and women's cross country and track programs. This role involves coaching and mentoring student-athletes, recruiting qualified prospective student-athletes, and ensuring program compliance with college, conference, and NCAA regulations. The Head Coach will also be responsible for fostering a positive team culture, promoting student-athlete welfare, and maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders within and outside the College. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills are essential for success in this position.
SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following functions, which are not listed in any particular order of importance or significance:
Recruiting : Identify prospective student-athletes qualified for admission to Rosemont College; effectively communicate with prospective student-athletes; coordinate recruitment efforts with the Athletic Department Recruiting Coordinator and Rosemont's Office of Admissions.
Coaching/Student-Athlete Experience : Demonstrate knowledge of, and ability to develop, sport skills, strategies, and philosophy; promote student-athlete welfare and provide appropriate mentoring to student-athletes and assistant coaches.
Program Administration : Operate within all College, the United East Conference, and NCAA DIII guidelines; schedule practices; maintain inventory of equipment, uniforms, and supplies; manage team travel according to established policies and procedures; communicate effectively within the Department and with the College community on matters pertaining to the program. Secure off-campus playing and practice facilities for the team in collaboration with the Department of Athletics.
Supervision : Identify, hire, train, and evaluate assistant coaches for both Men's and Women's teams, including volunteers; ensure that assistant coaches/volunteers adhere to all College, the United East Conference, and NCAA DIII guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent required. Master's degree preferred.
Two to three years of experience in coaching at the college level or significant experience coaching at the high school or club level, or equivalent required and/or collegiate playing experience. Experience in start-up programs is a plus.
Ability to recruit outstanding student-athletes to a strong academic environment.
Ability to effectively teach and coach students in both a team and individual setting.
A commitment to providing a positive role model and leadership to the team as well as excellent communication skills.
Ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of people in a manner that positively portrays the College and its programs, personnel, and philosophies.
Must possess a current driver's license valid in the State of Pennsylvania and a driving record insurable by the College's insurer.
Successful clearance of a criminal history record check.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
AED, CPR, and First Aid certified.
- Complete the Online NCAA Recruiting Rules Test – As mandated by NCAA Bylaws, coaches must pass the Recruiting Rules Test to ensure compliance.
EQUIPMENT USED AND ENVIRONMENT
Regularly utilizes sport-specific equipment to instruct student-athletes.
Requires knowledge of courts, netting, and playing areas to maintain safe and effective practice and competition spaces. Coordinate with the Department of Athletics if any issues are identified.
Regularly works in outdoor weather conditions.
Routinely exposed to outdoor weather and temperature extremes.
Occasionally exposed to extreme noise levels.
Regularly exposed to indoor conditions.
Occasionally subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat, or exposure to chemicals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS REQUIREMENTS
Regularly completing consistent and ongoing movement tasks for sport: skill demonstration, practicing with student-athletes during small group or lesson times.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly travels for in-season competition with the team.
Routinely travels for recruiting purposes and events.
