Job Description

The Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach is responsible for instructing students in running techniques and training programs, as well as strategies; developing students' skills in fitness, long distance running, and teamwork. The head coach is responsible for planning and directing the men's and women's cross country program which includes recruitment of scholar athletes, practice and meet management, overseeing assistant coaches, scheduling, budgeting and promotion of the CUC sport. The Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach also serves an assistant coach for the Track and Field program, working with the runners in distance events. This coach is responsible for the recruitment and the retention of student athletes in order to maintain the annual roster expectations for the program.

The Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach is a dynamic individual who exhibits a vibrant personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, displaying Christ-centered servant leadership and a commitment to student success. This individual seeks opportunities to integrate the mission, vision, and core values of Concordia University Chicago into their daily work with students, faculty, and fellow staff members.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Cross Country Program Management

    1. Responsible for all instruction of on-site coaching while creating an environment that is consistent with the values of the university and fostering the development of the student-athletes.
    2. Manage the annual competitive practice and game/event schedule, arranging facility reservations and travel details for the program.
    3. Develop and oversee the individual workout plans for each student-athlete to maximize skill development.
    4. Oversee program inventory, purchasing, storage and maintenance of equipment/uniforms.
    5. Run summer camps/clinics and other activities that help to support the program.
