Position Appointment Details: - Career Band: AT3 - Full-Time - Significant travel is required for recruiting and competition.
Primary Function:
To assist the Director in maintaining the fitness and well-being of university-owned horses,
To prepare and school the university-owned horses,
To coach the NCEA and IHSA teams,
To assist with horse shows at home and away,
To represent Sewanee on NCEA and IHSA communications/committee/etc.
Position Appointment Details: - Career Band: AT3 - Full-Time - Significant travel is required for recruiting and competition.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
Serve as head coach to the NCEA and IHSA teams,
Ride and school all university-owned horses,
Instruct physical education riding classes,
Handle all paperwork involved with the teams' participation in NCEA and IHSA competitions.
Work with the director to host horse shows and events,
Participate in scheduling, planning, and travel arrangements for away competitions.
Travel to horse shows,
Assist with the recruitment of prospective students,
Assist with fundraising initiatives at the equestrian center,
Enforce and monitor equestrian center policies and procedures,
Assist the director of equestrian with the monitoring of the team budget.
Must be prepared to help with all barn chores, including feeding, watering, turnout, clipping, stall cleaning, sweeping, and keeping the barn orderly.
Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Maintain and organize team equipment.
Judgment Required:
Performance of the essential duties of this position is dependent upon independent ingenuity and developmental efforts
Budgetary Responsibility:
Monitors expenditures against budget; prepares budget data for review/approval by supervisor/department head
Machines & Equipment Used:
Farm equipment and horse trailers
Personal Interaction/Communications:
Student Contact: Frequent; assisting visitors, answering questions, resolving problems.
Internal: Frequent; assisting visitors, answering questions, resolving problems.
External: Periodic; assisting visitors, answering questions, resolving problems; interacting with vendors and contractors; planning and coordinating the travel arrangements for intercollegiate athletic teams.
Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:

Operate farm equipment and drive a horse trailer

Valid Driver’s License

Working Environment:
Work is primarily performed in a normal barn environment and athletic facilities.
