Head Esports Coach

The University seeks a full-time, 10-month, Esports Head Coach, for its Athletic Department on the Mount
Vernon main campus. The position reports to the Vice President for Student Life and is available immediately,
upon appointment of a successful candidate. MVNU is also a distinctively evangelical Christian university and

be commensurate with education and experience. A full complement of benefits is provided to full-time

Responsibilities for this position include:
• Responsible for contest scheduling, practice and contest planning, player skill development and
coordination of all events concerning the Esports program
• Responsible for the general oversight of the Esports facility. This position will be responsible for
maintaining and monitoring all Esports equipment and facilities
• Have a thorough understanding of Esports and trends in the gaming industry. Should have familiarity with
several types of games and be able to instruct student-athletes in playing and game preparation. It is
imperative that the head coach research and stay current on cutting edge equipment and playing techniques
for a wide variety of Esports games
• Work one-on-one with student-athletes and also be required to instruct student-athletes in small group
settings
• Will serve as the face of the program. This includes helping to promote and build the program. The head
coach will work with groups on and off campus to expand the visibility of Mount Vernon Nazarene
University Esports
• Requires the ability to identify and recruit potential student-athletes. The head coach is responsible for
meeting all MVNU roster requirements
• Will oversee any part-time or volunteer coaches and provide annual evaluations for all Esports staff
• Should be well versed and able to instruct student-athletes on physical health, team concepts and team
building exercises, team development techniques and safety
• Responsible for monitoring the Esports budget. All plans for travel and equipment purchase also fall under
the responsibility of the head coach
• Monitors academic progress of all student-athletes on the team and working with various constituencies
across campus to ensure that student-athletes receive the proper academic counseling and assistance
• Provides secondary assistance to non-NAIA athletic recruitment and administrative efforts
• This position could require other duties as assigned by the athletic director. These could include
fundraising, game management, and working with other athletic department personnel at selected events
Expectations for the successful candidate:
• Evangelical Christian statement of faith, experience, and mission fit.
• Personal commitment to Jesus Christ.
• Understanding and alignment of the heritage, doctrine, and practices of the Church of the Nazarene.
Applicants must have the ability to articulate these vital aspects to our student-athletes
• Bachelor's degree is required and/or coaching/playing experience at an elite level of competition is desired
• Previous Esports coaching in higher education or similar program development is preferred
• Strong technology skills are required. This includes familiarity with software and hardware equipment
associated with Esports and the ability to stay up-to-date on cutting edge trends in Esports
• This position requires well-developed communication skills, as well as strong time management and
organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage a budget
• The ability to work weekends and evenings is required. This position requires travel (some overnight),
both in recruiting and attending competitions. Non-traditional work hours will also be required
• Must be capable of sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time, frequent use of stairs, ability to
lift 50 pounds
