The Head Football Athletic Trainer will report to the Director of Sports Medicine and provide oversight, management, and leadership of the Sports Medicine staff and care specific to the sport of football. Daily oversight will also include general operations and management of the athletic training room and the athletic trainers assigned to Football.
Duties:
Provide leadership and supervision to the football athletic training staff, including assistant athletic trainers and students
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols related to athletic training services for the football program
Obtain pre-participation examinations and identify potential risk factors for injury
Collaborate with sports performance coaches to design and implement injury prevention programs tailored to the needs of football athletes
Educate coaches, athletes, and support staff on injury prevention strategies and proper techniques
Evaluate and assess injured sustained during practices and games, utilizing clinical judgement and diagnostic skills
Provide immediate care and first aid for acute injured, including wound management, splinting, and immobilization
Coordinate with team physicians and medical specialists for further evaluation and treatment as needed
Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation programs for injured athletes, focusing on restoring function and minimizing recovery time
Monitor progress and adjust rehabilitation protocols based on objective assessment measures and clinical observations
Facilitate communication and coordination between athletes, coaches, and medical staff regarding return-to-play decisions
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all football athletes, including injury evaluations, treatment plans and progress notes
Ensure compliance with
NCAA
and institutional policies regarding medical documentation and reporting
Protect the confidentiality of athlete health information in accordance with
HIPAA
regulations
Implement emergency actions plans for various venues and locations
Conduct regular training sessions to ensure readiness and response effectiveness
Coordinate with campus and community emergency services to provide seamless care in emergency situations
Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field (required)
Current certification by the Board of Certification (
BOC
) for Athletic Trainers
Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Tennessee
Minimum of 3 years of experience working as an athletic trainer, preferably with collegiate or professional football athletes
Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in injury assessment, emergency care, and rehabilitation techniques
Knowledge of
NCAA
rules and regulations pertaining to athletic training and sports medicine
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a criminal background check as mandated by Tennessee State University.
