Job Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to organize, recruit, develop, and instruct football student-athletes in alignment with the academic mission of the University, Landmark Conference standards, and NCAA rules and regulations. In addition to coaching responsibilities, the position includes a secondary administrative duty, which will be assessed annually. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Specific Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Head Coach of the Football program.
  • Provide oversight of all operations and programming including coaching, training, and skill development of all student-athletes during practices and competitions.
  • Develop and implement organized practices and game strategies.
  • Evaluate and recruit qualified student-athletes.
  • Facilitate the operating budget and support fundraising opportunities for the football program, including One SU and Orange and Maroon giving days and promotional activities, speaking engagements, and alumni events as requested or approved for the sports program.
  • Develop a schedule that includes competitive regional contests and oversees team travel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Partner with athletic administration and campus stakeholders, including Offices of Student Life, Counseling, Facilities Management, and Admission, to support the football program and student-athlete experiences and foster the academic progress and success of student-athletes including promoting and maintaining an environment that encourages academic achievement as measured by academic eligibility, retention, and graduation.
  • Promote the physical and mental well-being of all program participants, including fostering a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members, assistant coaches, and staff.
  • Develop positive rapport with athletics staff, as well as SU community.
  • Exercise functional and administrative supervision for any assigned assistant coaches and other support staff, to include their compliance with NCAA, Conference and university rules and policies.
  • Adhere to all NCAA and conference rules and bylaws.
