Fairmont State University is a public comprehensive, regional University committed to educating global citizen leaders in an environment distinguished by a commitment to excellence, student success and transformational impact.The Head Football Coach will be a direct report to the Fairmont State University Director of Athletics, in which will oversee all aspects of the Fairmont State University football program (NCAA II) in accordance with NCAA, Mountain East Conference (MEC) and all applicable University policies. Demonstrates commitment to the missions/visions of both Fairmont State University and the Athletic Department; fosters the academic development of the student athletes; and ensures that the student athletes, coaching staff and program present a positive image of Fairmont State in all aspects. This is a fulltime, 11-month supervisory position.-Recruits/trains/coaches the student athletes of the football program.-Maintains thorough/continuing familiarity and compliance with the constitution/bylaws/interpretations of NCAA II, MEC and FSU policies, regulations and rules pertaining to the conduct/administration of the football program.-Oversees the process/conduct of and actively participates in recruiting prospective student athletes, including developing a positive working relationship with University faculty/staff to assist in the recruiting process.-Organizes/manages practices, competitions, competition organization, off-campus travel, summer camps/clinics and promotional initiatives.-Schedules games in coordination and with the approval of the Office of the Director of Athletics.-Oversees the management/maintenance of all equipment and facilities associated with the football program.-Ensures the program’s compliance with all established State and institutional operational procurement procedures.-Assists and gives input into the development of the football budget; ensures adherence to and monitoring of said budget.-Works with appropriate departmental/institutional staff to ensure met deadlines for team travel and appropriate and safe travel arrangements.-Supervises/manages all personnel assigned to the football program, including recruitment and selection; assigning/mentoring/monitoring work assignments; appropriate and prompt staff discipline and corrective measures; resolving personnel issues promptly and positively; and all aspects of performance management.-Expands and enhances the camps programs, including summer camps, clinics or special-target-population camps.-In collaboration with Director of Athletics, develops and implements a plan to generate additional funds for program support, ensuring that the plan/programs/events complement and do not compete with already established programs and events in the Athletics Department and at the University.-Develops and cultivates sponsorship relationships.-Monitors the academic progress of all student athletes in the football program.-In collaboration with the department Strength & Conditioning Coach, oversees the organization, oversight and implementation of all off-season, pre-season and in-season strength training, conditioning and agility programs.-Communicates orally/in writing with media and outside agencies per established guidelines and in coordination with the FSU Office of Athletic Communications.-Conducts coaches’ preparation and planning meetings and trains and mentors assigned coaching staff in proper and effective coaching techniques; attends all other meetings as appropriate/as assigned.-Establishes and ensures communication of and compliance with rules regarding student-athlete conduct, appearance and behavior.-Demonstrates support for all other sports programs/clubs, intramural programs and other functions of the University and the Athletic Department, in particular regarding the scheduling of facilities and use of available resources.-Works collaboratively with all support offices, both in Athletics and across the institution, whose work involves the football program and its student-athletes.-Performs related duties as appropriate and as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid driver’s license issued by the State of West Virginia (within 4 weeks of hire), with a previous/current driving record evidencing minimal violations. Must complete annual NCAA Coaches module and must maintain Red Cross-approved First Aid and CPR/AED certifications.

A minimum of five (5) years of relevant coaching experience; preference will be given to candidates at the collegiate level.Knowledge, skills and abilities required include:-Proven coaching and mentoring skills.-Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA and MEC rules and bylaws, particularly in regard to issues of compliance.-Proven organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines that may be imposed due to game, competition or travel implications.-Proven leadership skills.-Effective persuasion and negotiation skills.-Strong strategic and critical-thinking skills and proven analytical skills.-Solid and effective communications skills that promote empathetic and persuasive communication with students, parents, alumni, colleagues and sponsors, and an appreciation for diversity.-The ability to maintain self-composure and a professional and controlled demeanor during periods of stress.-Proven flexibility and the adaptability to adjust to changing situations and events with professionalism, calmness and dignity.-Ability to meet University, MEC and NCAA recordkeeping and compliance guidelines and requirements.-Proven skill in and history of developing sponsorships and generating funds in support of a collegiate football program.-Proven history of serving as a positive role model for student athletes.
