Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Head Football Trainer, Intercollegiate Athletics [R0140396].

ROLE of the POSITION

The Head Football Athletic Trainer will report to the Director of Sports Medicine and provide oversight, management, and leadership of the Sports Medicine staff and care specific to the sport of football. Daily oversight will also include general operations and management of the athletic training room and the athletic trainers assigned to Football, in the Fertitta Football Complex.

Primary responsibilities include providing direct medical support for the UNLV Football team, which will include daily practice, game coverage and travel during the season. This position will be responsible for the direct communication of player medical status to the coaching staff. This position also includes coverage for home events and other events of liaison sport coverage as deemed necessary. Home coverage includes set up for the event and coordination with physicians and emergency services. In addition, this position will be responsible for assisting the athletic training staff in preventative health care, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries/illnesses for 17 sponsored intercollegiate athletic teams, cheerleading, dance and pom. This position will be required to comply with all NCAA, HIPPA and FERPA requirements and will maintain medical records, coordinates health care with physicians and will assist in the supervision and management of an athletic training facility.

UNLV also sponsors a CAATE accredited undergraduate athletic training educational program and this position will be required to assist in the education of all student-athletes, undergraduate athletic training students and graduate students.

This position should have a basic knowledge of NCAA rules as it pertains to assigned job duties and the scope of employment. In addition, the individual will be responsible for obtaining proper guidance or approval from Athletics Compliance, prior to participating in select activities, as defined by NCAA bylaws or institutional policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires aBachelor’s Degreefrom an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) andtwo (2) years minimum of comparable supervisory experience. Experience in a professional, college or university setting as a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer at the NCAA Division 1 level. Previous experience with college football perferred. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
