Job Description

The Head Men’s and Women’s Skiing Coach provides comprehensive leadership and oversight for all aspects of UAF’s Nordic skiing programs within the Department of Athletics. This position is responsible for coaching and program development, student-athlete recruitment, supervision and mentorship of assistant coaches, and fostering a culture that promotes academic success, personal growth, and competitive excellence. The role supports student-athlete welfare, ensures compliance with NCAA, conference, and university policies, and contributes to the department through community engagement, fundraising, and responsible program administration. Working collaboratively with athletics staff and campus partners, the position advances the mission of the department by developing successful student-athletes and promoting the university through competitive achievement and community connection.

To thrive in this role, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organization, and communication skills while fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performance team culture. The individual must be able to effectively balance coaching excellence with administrative responsibilities, recruiting strategy, and student-athlete academic support. Success requires the ability to mentor and supervise staff, build meaningful relationships with student-athletes, alumni, and community partners, and maintain strict compliance with NCAA, conference, and university policies. A proactive, collaborative mindset and a commitment to student-athlete development, competitive success, and community engagement are essential to advancing the mission of the athletics department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or kinesiology. Valid driver's license required. Master's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, or kinesiology preferred.  

Position Details:

This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.
