JOB SUMMARY

This position will report to the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance. The Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field Coach will provide vision, leadership and oversight for all aspects of these four NCAA Division III programs. This includes the support and advancement of the mission of Marymount University, evaluation and recruitment of qualified scholar student-athletes that includes local, regional and national talent, coaching, coordinating team practices to enhance the team’s performance as a highly visible sport, budget oversight and fundraising activities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• In accordance with NCAA rules and regulations, create a dynamic, inclusive and diverse recruiting plan to attract and retain high-profile student-athletes that are academically and athletically prepared.
• Develop and execute a strategic plan for developing regionally and nationally recognized competitive teams.
• Oversee and coordinate seasonal plans to include: competitive schedules, practice facility schedule, academic progress, welfare and retention.
• Adhere to the rules of the University, Atlantic East Conference, and the NCAA.
• In conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff, athletic trainers and team physicians develop training and conditioning programs to enhance team performance andpromote the development of the student-athlete.
• Serve as an ambassador for Marymount Athletics through articulation of its mission, and promoting the Cross Country and Track and Field programs locally, nationally and internationally.
• Communicate effectively with media, alumni, parents and friends of Marymount.

OTHER DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS

• Identifies, supervises and evaluates assistant coaching staff and graduate assistants.
• Manages budget, equipment procurement, team and recruiting travel arrangements.
• Works closely with the Associate Athletics Director for Development to organize and cultivate fundraising events and relationships with campus partners and community organizations.
• Monitors affiliated professional organizations.
• Serves in administrative assignments.
• Assists in the development of strategies to increase visibility and attendance at home and away events.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree

Experience:

Requires at least 5 years of coaching experience, collegiate coaching and head coaching experience preferred. Collegiate playing experience is a plus.Thorough knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.

Licenses or Certifications:

CPR, First Aid and AED certification. Current and valid driver's license.

Financial Responsibility

Processes or records financial transactions within established guidelines and safeguards. Reviews and/or approves financial transactions at the function or department level. May require some interpretation of policies. Process purchase requests and make budgetary decisions within a set budget for the program.

Supervision

Supervises Graduate Assistants and Assistant Coaches. This includes hiring, scheduling, and evaluating performance.

Special Knowledge

Basic computer skills, including ability to utilize Microsoft applications and recruiting/compliance software (Front Rush). Good relationship skills within the university community. Ability to work independently and to work evenings and weekends to accomplish necessary tasks.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

• Ability to lift up 50 pounds.
• Ability to work during nights, weekends and some holidays.
• Working in inclement, warm or cold weather may be necessary.
