Job Description

The Department of Athletics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Head Men's Basketball Coach. The Alaska Nanook athletic program is a multidivisional member of the NCAA including The Great Northwest Athletic Conference for Men’s Basketball, with 10 teams competing at the Division I and Division II levels.

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Head Men's Basketball Coach will be responsible for the administration of an NCAA Division II Men's Basketball program to: ensure the health, well-being and academic success of the student-athletes and develop the competitive nature of the Men's Basketball program. The position is also responsible for developing and maintaining the sport budget; scheduling and organizing practice and competitions; ensuring that the program is operating in compliance with the NCAA, conference and university rules; developing and enforcing written team rules and expectations; recruiting quality student-athletes that are intent on graduating from the institution; assisting in the monitoring and maintenance of academic progress and eligibility of team members; supporting the philosophy, policies and procedures of the Department of Athletics; and to promoting intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the university.

To thrive in this role, there must be a demonstrated record of coaching success at a Division I or II program (or relevant experience), the ability to effectively communicate with the media, a proven track record to recruit and retain quality student-athletes, thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance requirements, a coaching philosophy that aligns with the mission, and vision and values of UAF and the Athletic Department. Furthermore, this person must demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain professional, collaborative relationships with student-athletes, administrators, faculty, staff, and the community, the ability to generate philanthropic funds to support the basketball program, and experience supervising and mentoring basketball staff and student-athletes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree. 5+ years HS Head Coach OR 5+ years College Coaching Experience

Position Details:

This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary andfull employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on theUA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience. Salary is negotiable.
