Coach the sports of Men’s Basketball and develop a team cohesiveness that reflects the pride of Cheyney University. Recruit and assess appropriate student-athletes with the academic background and talent needed to be competitive in a NCAA Division II program within the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Abide by NCAA rules and regulations.

• Coordinate and develop workouts for the teams.
• Maintain participation numbers based upon expectations of the Athletic Director.
• Coordinate logistics of university competitions and conference championships.
• Develop, monitor and reconcile budgetary expenditures.
• Recruit prospective student-athletes (in region and nationally) for the intercollegiate Men’s Basketball program.
• Schedule off campus competitions (non-conference)
• Oversee the awarding of athletic scholarships.
• Handle facility requests for meets, practices, equipment purchase, major repairs, game administration and work orders and team travel and team travel advances including transportation, lodging and meals with athletic administration.
• Conduct meetings with part-time and volunteer assistant coaches and distribute practice and recruiting area assignments.
• Attend department meetings.
• Advise student-athletes in social, educational and post-secondary issues.
• Monitor student athletes’ academic success.
• Work game management logistics in other sport events on campus.
• Coordinate program’s fundraising, community service, clinics and summer camp logistics.
• Perform speaking engagements to solicit positive public relations for the program.
• Work closely with the Athletic Trainer for the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
• Utilize Compliance software and submit appropriate compliance paperwork to meet NCAA expectations.
• Support the university’s Zero Tolerance policy and educational programs for student athlete welfare.
• Coordinate information and match results with the Commnications Team to obtain publicity for the program.
• Serve as liaison with various sports groups both internal and external.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Athletics Director or his/her designee.
• To promote an atmosphere for compliance within the program supervised by the coach and to monitor the activities regarding compliance of all assistant coaches and other administrators involved with the program who report directly or indirectly to the coach.

Requirements

Education, Training, and/or Experience** :**

Bachelor’s degree required with one of the following:

• Minimum of 1 year as full time Assistant Coach on D-1 or D-2 or 2 years as a graduate assistant coach OR
• Minimum of 3 years as a D-3 Head Coach OR
• Minimum of 3 years as a Head Coach in High School or Club Level OR
• Four years successful playing experience on the Division I or II level

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** :**

• Should demonstrate area(s) expertise (training of setters, middles or defensive schemes)
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
• Experience in successful recruiting
• Demonstrate successful coordination of fundraising
• Demonstrate successful coordination and/or participation in camps and clinics
• Demonstrate successful coordination of tournaments
• Demonstrate successful community service participation and/or initiatives
• Strong computer and organizational skills
