Job Summary
IU Columbus is seeking to fill the role of Head Men's Basketball Coach (NAIA). This position is primarily responsible for the development of all aspects of a competitive intercollegiate sport program for the men's basketball program with general oversight by departmental leaders. This role is tasked with making recruiting and scheduling decisions independently in consultation with departmental leaders.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Directs the physical, competitive, academic, and emotional development of student athletes
Plans and executes practice and competition plans
Complies with National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), applicable conference, and institutional rules
Manages budgetary control, scheduling assistance, promotions, public relations, and the overall effective performance of the student athletes and coaching staff
Develops all aspects of the men's basketball program at IU Columbus including recruiting, training, and coaching quality student athletes as members of the program
Provides a quality competitive experience expected by a college athlete
Provides direction to other program coaching staff and program members
Plans and executes the schedule of all contests, practices, and other athletic events in compliance with departmental and IU policies, NAIA conference regulations, as well as other regulatory bodies applicable
Acts as a liaison for athletics and staff, under the direction of departmental leaders, to aid in athletic administration and continued development of the IU Columbus Department of Athletics
Coordinates schedules within the organization and with external partners
Monitors routine maintenance and upkeep of facilities and equipment
Assists in budget planning and reporting
Oversees transportation for the program
Assists at athletic events as assigned
Monitors academic progress of the student athletes involved in the program and refers students to assistance as needed
Develops opportunities for student athletes to participate in service activities and NAIA Champions of Character programs
General Responsibilities
Complies fully with all NAIA, applicable athletic conference, and Indiana University rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment
Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student athletes by counseling team members in academic, disciplinary, sportsmanship, and personal matters, as appropriate
Develops a competitively successful team to represent Indiana University positively and responsibly
Provides student athletes the opportunity for a positive experience and climate in which to achieve their academic, athletic, and personal goals
Performs recruiting duties by formulating a plan to incorporate coverage of all prospective student athletes and recruiting high-quality student-athletes that meet or exceed university qualifications
Represents the team, department, and university in a positive, professional, and ethical manner
Responds appropriately to media, marketing, fund-raising, and community service requests, as assigned
Exhibits professionalism in a manner consistent with the missions and goals of Indiana University, applicable athletic conference, and the NAIA
Directs coaching staff, when applicable
Maintains program budget
