Job Description:

Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, this position is responsible for all aspects of the development and administration of a successful NCAA Division III Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Program.  The program will be conducted in accordance with all College and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and Conference of New England (CNE rules, regulations, and policies.  The Head Men's Lacrosse Coach will supervise and delegate certain functions to the Assistant Coaches.  The Head Men' Lacrosse Coach is a professional employee of the College with a primary duty of teaching and instructing student-athletes in the specific sport that is being coached. The vast majority of the Head Coach's time is spent on coaching/teaching duties, RECRUITING, RETENTION, COMMUNITY SERVICE AND other administrative duties as assigned and listed below.

Essential Functions:

• To operate within the athletic philosophy of Curry College and within the rules and guidelines of the NCAA, ECAC, CNE, and any other conference the school is affiliated with;
• Present a positive image on our campus when dealing with students/faculty/staff;
• Be a positive recruiter for the school as well as the team;
• Be supportive of all teams and coaches;
• Attend all athletic dept. staff/coaches meetings and conference coaches meetings;
• Participate in Admissions Open houses, Accepted-Students days, etc.;
• Complete all paperwork in a timely manner regarding rosters, purchase orders, meal expenses, eligibility forms, reimbursements, end-of-season reports;
• Aid the Athletic Training and Sports Information departments in getting material (from players or coaches) that they need;
• Commit to the off-season with regards to recruiting, current player management (academic and social, upcoming budget, scheduling, etc.;
• Initiate Alumni Involvement when appropriate;
• Initiate fund-raising ideas to help supplement your budget.

Athletic Administration:

• Administrative responsibilities will be assigned based on department need.

Game Administration:

• On Site Administrator for 1 TEAM (out of season);
• To oversee the athletic event being played.  The go to person for any issues that may arise before/during or after the game.  (Scoreboard, Music, Lights, Crowd Control, etc.);
• Send out e-mail to visiting school coach with particulars regarding arrival time, locker room use, bus parking, food, etc.;
• Get list of game workers beforehand;
• Arrive minimum 45-60 minutes before game time;
• Make sure the student workers have responsibility;
• Introduce yourself to visiting coach and Officials before game. If they have questions);
• Pay attention to Crowd Behavior (Keep it positive);
• Contact PS if any issues arise;
• Both Teams Sportsmanship (Players and Coaches);
• Make sure music is appropriate and at an acceptable level;
• Supervise the game at hand;
• Leave after game is over once it is determined everything is ok;
• Be Personable and out-going.

To Team:

1. Team Success:

• Build student athletes' respect for themselves, their teammates, their opponents, their coaches, and their sport.  Communicate to student athletes in a positive manner;
• Assure proper safety equipment and safety practices are implemented;
• Assure skills and game strategies are effectively taught;
• Develop commitment of team members to team success;
• Work with Assistant Coaches on game preparation, film review, practice scheduling.

2. Recruitment:

• Partner with the Admission Department in the recruiting of student athletes;
• Provide recruiting reports as requested by Admission and follow Admission and recruiting procedures as required by Admission;
• Arrange and attend recruiting visits to schools, games, and recruiting events, maintaining full and accurate records of recruiting events;
• Maintain recruiting database with up-to-date contact information for prospective students and coach contacts, as well as record of all communications and interactions with recruits;
• Supervise recruiting efforts of Assistant coaches;
• Arrange on-campus visits for recruits and meet with prospective students and their families;
• Arrange overnight visits and assure prospective students are appropriately supervised;
• Participate in Admission Open Houses, Accepted Student Day, and other events;
• Source possible recruits through phone, email and on-line research;
• Assist in preparation of recruitment mailings;
• Work closely with Admission Counselors through the Admission cycle and provide reports to Admission as requested.

3. Student Success and Retention:

• Monitor academic success of student athletes and encourage high achievement;
• Respond effectively to concerns expressed by student athletes about athletic and non-athletic issues.  Keep Athletic Director informed of concerns raised by student-athletes;
• Refer students to appropriate office on campus to address concerns (Academic Support, Counseling, Residence Life, Financial Aid, Athletic Training).  Follow-up when appropriate;
• Monitor student performance with Student Affairs, and encourage participation and compliance with campus standards.

4. Team administration:

• Attend all Athletic Department coaches meetings;
• Support other teams, and other Athletic units (Sports Information, Athletic Training);
• Complete all paperwork in a timely manner regarding rosters, purchase orders, meal expenses, eligibility forms, reimbursements, end-of-season reports;
• Aid the Athletic Training and Sports Information departments in getting material (from players or coaches) that they need;
• Arrange all transportation, food and lodging for away-games;
• In charge of distribution, collection, and inspection of all related equipment;
• Coordinate Work-study assignments as needed (Team Laundry, office work, etc.);
• Meet regularly with Athletic Director;
• Maintain roster size of 35-40 players.

5. Community Outreach:

• Arrange Service projects for team (at least two events each season);
• Maintain records and inform IA and AD prior to all events.  (Secure approval of events from AD in advance.);
• Assure that team presents a positive image both externally and on campus;
• Get all information, write-ups, pics, etc? to SID office for releases and social media.

6. Supervision:

• Supervise Assistant Coaches, work students and team managers as needed;
• Supervise weight room for safety purposes if needed.

Additional Functions:

• Comply with the sport specific intercollegiate affiliation policy, conference rules, and department policy and procedures;
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director;
• Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a related discipline from an accredited four-year collegiate institution.
• Coaching experience at the club, high school or college level.
• Experience in coaching and knowledge of the fundamentals, tactics, and strategies of coaching intercollegiate sports with ability to recruit talented players for the program.
• Knowledgeable and current on all College rules and regulations concerning eligibility and recruiting related to specific sport that is being coached.
• Ability to handle emergency situations involving students.
• Current driver's license and good driving record.
• Ability to travel.
• Ability to work evening and weekends and some holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Intercollegiate sport specific experience.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Salary Range:

$60,000 to $65,000 paid over 10 months
