The Department of Athletics will support the university mission by developing and maintaining a top-quality Division II intercollegiate athletics program that is committed to providing a positive and fulfilling academic and athletic experience for all student-athletes. As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and the NCAA Division II, CSU Pueblo Athletics plays a supporting role in the higher education mission while enhancing a sense of community, strengthening our identity, and playing a prominent role in enrollment management for the University.

Description of Job

This full-time, year-round position provides a head men’s soccer coach for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The position provides overall organization and management of the men’s soccer program while reporting directly to the Vice President for Athletics and Strategic Partnerships. In accordance with the vision of the Department, this position is responsible for leadership of a championship-caliber program, including, but not limited to coaching, practices and workouts, recruiting, scouting, scheduling, coordinating travel, planning and monitoring the men’s soccer operating and scholarship budget, monitoring player academics, maintaining strong roster numbers, organizing and managing camps and clinics, following RMAC and NCAA rules, promoting the men’s soccer program to the community, alumni and fans, and developing fund-raising opportunities for the program. Other duties may be assigned by the Vice President for Athletics and Strategic Partnerships as necessary.

Primary Duties

• Coach student-athletes, including all men’s soccer team practices and scheduled games/contests. Develop sound game plans and strategies. Condition and train athletes, including skill demonstration, to develop skill, character and teamwork in men’s soccer.
• Other duties assigned by Deputy Director of Athletics or next level supervisor.
• Manage the entire men’s soccer program by planning and coordinating all activities. Ensure that all University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations are followed, including student-athlete eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, scheduling, and academic progress. Manage the programs operating budget through procurement requests, and travel reimbursements.
• Recruit highly qualified prospective student-athletes.

• Monitor student-athlete academics, including student-athlete welfare and encouraging academic excellence.

• Organize team camps; develop fund-raising opportunities, serve on committees that promote success of the program and athletics, and establish and maintain community contacts and enhance the success of the program.

• Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Athletics and Strategic Partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year institution.
• Willing and able to work nights and weekends.
• Physical ability to fulfill duties of the position including lifting up to 50 lbs. and having the mobility needed to demonstrate skills and movement required in practices/contests.
• Previous coaching experience.
• Experience in a position or activity that required skills in cooperation, organization, communication, and problem solving.
• Experience with or commitment to working in a diverse work environment.

Preferred Qualifications - Master’s degree from an accredited institution.

• Demonstrated commitment and ability to motivate, teach, and counsel student-athletes.

• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

• Strong management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

• Experience as an assistant or head soccer coach.

• Experience coaching at the collegiate level in soccer.

• Experience recruiting for NCAA qualified student-athletes.

• Experience in a position or activity that required the ability to manage multiple tasks.
