Head Men's Soccer Coach
The Head Men's Soccer Coach is responsible for running a highly competitive soccer program, recognized nationally both athletically and academically, consistent with the student-athlete philosophy of NCAA Division III athletics, which generates College and community enthusiasm and support. The head coach creates a culture that is strongly committed to recruiting and supporting students of varied backgrounds that is inclusive and accepting in nature.
This is a full-time 10-month administrative staff position, reporting to the Director of Athletics. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. To apply please submit a resume and cover letter.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop, and administer a highly competitive soccer program, consistent with the student-athlete philosophy of NCAA Division III athletics, which generates College and community enthusiasm and support. Become competitive at the conference, regional, and national levels. Oversee all administrative and coaching activities within the soccer program.
Meet or exceed established recruiting targets. Coordinate recruiting efforts with the admission office; develop a successful team recruiting strategy; visit high schools to meet with coaches and recruits; call, e-mail, text, and write prospects and coaches; record recruiting action. Organize and participate in all on-campus recruiting activities including admissions recruiting days, official campus visits and unofficial visits.
Create and foster a positive team culture that emphasizes individual and group leadership development. Ensure the team atmosphere and environment grows proportionally as each team develops.
Investigate and develop training, competition, and travel schedules. Organize and purchase equipment, develop team traditions, hire coaching staff (when applicable).
Schedule all games and set appropriate practice days and times for the soccer program in accordance with institutional, SCAC, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Act as immediate supervisor for assistant coach(s). Create job descriptions, train, assign and evaluate their effectiveness on a regular basis.
Create a culture of awareness and support as they relate to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Assist with the department retention program to ensure appropriate persistence from year-to-year.
Operate a fiscally sound program with an annually balanced budget. Review all budget activities and expenditures on a regular basis. Submit purchase order requests and credit card expense reports in an appropriate and timely fashion.
Actively encourage leadership among student-athletes. Monitor the academic progress of the team. Adhere to all compliance and eligibility rules and regulations.
Other related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Five plus years of experience as a collegiate soccer coach. Collegiate playing experience is desired. A successful record of recruiting, developing, and retaining college student-athletes is essential.
SKILLS:
Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities described below or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Knowledge of coaching and teaching theories. Advanced knowledge of coaching and teaching of specific soccer skills and techniques.
Ability to effectively recruit qualified student-athletes. Ability to effectively counsel and advise prospective freshmen, transfers, and their parents regarding numerous aspects of the College. Ability to exercise the proper balance of persistence and patience as individually appropriate to each contact.
Ability to understand and comply with institutional, SCAC, and NCAA regulations.
Ability to attend all athletic practices, competitions as well as recruiting events. Travel is required.
Ability to relate well to, serve as a role model for and advise a wide variety of students.
Skill in communicating with college student-athletes, their parents, coaching professionals and community members. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills is essential.
Strong commitment to a smaller college environment. Extensive knowledge of the organization and operation of the College, both administratively and academically, especially regarding admission-related activities. Ability to understand the varied and available organization and community resources.
Ability to deal with multiple tasks and work with a large number of individuals concurrently, generally without direct supervision. The capacity to be well organized, detail oriented, and flexible.
Ability to work as an effective member of a team and manage events on a cooperative and high-quality way. Commitment to an environment that nurtures cooperation and diversity.
Comprehensive knowledge of risk management and safety as it relates to soccer.
Valid driver’s license is required.
