JOB SUMMARY:

The Men’s & Women’s Cross Country coach organizes, conducts and supervises all aspects of a Division II Men’s & Women’s Cross Country teams, within the parameters designated by the University, Sunshine State Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)

Duties and Tasks:

Oversee all aspects of the student athlete development and performance of the men’s & women’s intercollegiate cross country teams to include:

• Organizing, recruitment/evaluation of student-athletes
• Conducting and supervising practices and player conditioning
• Preparing for and implementing tournament and course strategies
• Providing appropriate leadership, direction and supervision relevant to the academic progress and personal
• Development of student-athletes within the men’s & women’s cross country teams
• Creating a positive and productive environment for the student-athletes.
• Oversee administrative functions within the programs
• Participating in conference and NCAA meetings
• Adhering to all conference and NCAA rules/requirements relevant to the conduct of the programs
• Preparing information relevant to budgeting, equipment needs, and program concerns
• Participate in promotional and public relations to advance athletic programs by:
  
• Providing assistance with departmental fundraising.
  
• Representing the Department of Athletics at designated University, departmental, and community functions.
  
• Serving in public relations capacities as needed.
  
• Encouraging staff and student-athletes to participate in community service activities.
  
• Promote the University’s core values to student’s, co-workers and university community.
  
• Build effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
  
• Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
• Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.
• Performs other related duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of coaching tactics and techniques
• Ability to motivate student-athletes.
• Strong Leadership skills.
• Ability to prioritize practice plans, recruiting and match management.
• Demonstrated ability to use computer programs.
• Ability to recruit student athletes.
• Valid Driver’s License
• Well developed interpersonal communication skills to deal with recruits and their parents

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

ENVIRONMENT:

Master’s Degree preferred

Collegiate / High School head coaching experience preferred

Proven ability to provide mentoring and leadership to student athletes

Commitment to ensure compliance with all NCAA and University rules and regulations

Physical Demands:

Ability to demonstrate proper men’s & women’s cross country techniques, set-up and move equipment needed for practice and meets
