Position Summary

The Head Coach is responsible for coaching, managing, and directing all aspects of the highly competitive

NCAA

Division II, Gannon University Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Team, ensuring adherence to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (

PSAC

) and

NCAA

rules, regulations, and the University’s Mission. The successful candidate will assist in the development of leadership and citizenship of student-athletes and serve as an ambassador of the University within the community. Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.

1. Recruits quality academic students who are also competitive student-athletes.

2. Schedules all competitive events and competitive facilities.

3. Schedules all practices and practice facilities.

4. Coordinates advanced scheduling, with budget approval, for all transportation, hotel, and meal requirements for away contests.

5. Completes all expense reports for all expenses associated with home and away contests.

6. Purchases, issues, maintains, and collects all team uniforms and equipment.

7. Oversees all budgetary-related items.

8. In conjunction with the strength and conditioning Coach, trains, strengthens, and develops student-athletes.

9. Monitors and supports all student-athletes in their academic pursuits.

10. Monitors, educates, and advises all student-athletes concerning expectations in the classroom, during competitions and practices, and within campus and community living.

11. Advises administration of any significant accomplishments (athletic, academic, civic) obtained by any member of the team.

12. Identifies, hires, and supervises staff, volunteer(s), manager(s), and/or student assistant(s).

13. Participates in an annual review of the season with the Athletic Administration.

14. Learns, understands, and complies with all rules and regulations set forth by the

NCAA

,

PSAC

, and Gannon University.

1. Passes the

NCAA

educational modules on an annual basis.

1. Develops and implements camps, clinics, and/or learn to swim programs.

2. Works collaboratively to develop and implement initiatives that support the program – alumni engagement, development, and promotional.

3. Performs other duties related as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience:

Successful collegiate-level coaching experience is required.

Skills:

Must have a working knowledge of

PSAC

and

NCAA

rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated organizational and time management skills; technical knowledge of swimming techniques and strategy combined with the ability to supervise, teach, and coach them effectively; the ability to motivate and effectively communicate with student-athletes; a willingness and ability to recruit qualified student-athletes to the University a; strong administrative skill set such as prioritization, organization, and budgeting; ability to work independently and to work under pressure.

: A valid driver’s license in good standing. Per Gannon’s Institutional Policy Manual there can be no suspensions on the Motor Vehicle Record for 5 years prior to being hired.
