Position Description Summary/Purpose:
Recruits, trains and provides guidance to members of the Menâs and Womenâs Swimming team in a manner which promotes the academic, athletic and social success of athletes and is consistent with the mission and goals of the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department. Oversee all aspects of operating a safe and successful aquatics facility.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

Represent the University of Bridgeport and the Athletic Department in a positive manner with a high degree of integrity and quality.
Promote and support the University of Bridgeport and its mission.
 Promote and support the University of Bridgeport Athletic Departmentâs program mission and goals.
Promote Menâs and Womenâs Swimming.
Provide leadership in the planning and operation of the program.
Administer Menâs and Womenâs Swimming program within the policies of University of Bridgeport, team conference, and the NCAA.
Organize and facilitate all daily practice sessions, contest preparation, competition and off-season training.
Adhere to operating, equipment and scholarship budgets as established by the Athletic Department.
Delegate responsibilities to assistants, student coaches, and squad members.
Develop and maintain a successful recruiting system while maintaining a high level of visibility.
Assist in promotion and public relations activities for the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department.
Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches.
Schedule contests in accordance with the policies set forth by the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department.
Coordinate travel and meal considerations for away contests.
Select assistant coaches in cooperation with the Vice President of Athletics.
Enforce discipline and sportsmanship behavior.
The aquatics director will be responsible for supervising/scheduling of lifeguards
Oversee pool scheduling for campus use and rental use
Oversee pool maintenance (pool chemicals, etc)
Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Athletics and Recreation or the Director of Campus Recreation.
Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.

Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.
Coaching and /or participation at collegiate level preferred; demonstrated ability and passion to teach swimming;
Background in aquatics management

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelorâs Degree required; advanced degree preferred;
CPR/AED certification;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Coaching and /or participation at collegiate level preferred; demonstrated ability and passion to teach swimming;
Knowledge and experience in aquatics
Ability to work weekdays, evenings and weekends;
Candidate must have a valid driverâs license and meet University of Bridgeportâs Driving Requirements;
Willingness to fundraise;
Ability to interact with all levels of the university community.
