Primary Function:
The part-time Head Soccer Coach serves as the primary coach of the Landmark College intercollegiate coed soccer team and works extensively with the Athletics Department, students, faculty and staff, and other individuals to lead a comprehensive year-round soccer program committed to excellence and integrity in both collegiate athletics as well as academics. The practice and game schedule are 3-4 times a week while in-season and 1-2 times a week while out-of-season. In-season commitment for the fall semester is 10+ weeks and for spring semester is league dependent but may be 8+ weeks indoors and outdoors. Out-of-season commitments occupy the remaining weeks of the 15-week semesters.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Provide a safe, engaging learning environment for student-athletes of all abilities.
• Recruit, guide, and coach members of the soccer team.
• Coordinate, organize and train student-athletes during all scheduled practices and games.
• Work with the College to monitor the academic and social progress of athletes.
• Help find appropriate level competition and athletic contests for athletic events.
• Represent the team and deliver awards at the Annual Sport Awards Ceremony and submit appropriate nominations. Serve on the Sports Awards Committee.
• Help maintain shared or sport specific athletic facilities and equipment.
• Promote games and team activities to the Landmark community.
• Assist with the development and evaluation of policy and procedures for student athletes.
• Establish community relationships that promote the athletics program as well as the college.

• Assist with game and event operations to assure facility preparations, safety, and positive behaviors of staff and spectators.
• Required to attend all formal practices and competitive events.
• Must be available for evenings and weekends during the fall and spring college semesters.
• Supervise and assign responsibilities of assistant coach.
• Plan comprehensive pre- and post-season conditioning activities.
• Develop strategies to motivate individual and team performance along with appropriate personal and social conduct.
• Assist in team travel arrangements, including providing transportation to/from contests using college vehicles.
• Serves as an example of competitive but sportsmanlike conduct.
• Works with the Athletic Department to ensure that athletic injuries are handled appropriately and in a timely fashion.
• Report and address student concerns in a timely fashion.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor's degree
• Three years of experience coaching athletics; sport specific high school or collegiate coaching experience preferred
• Thorough understanding of the rules, strategies, skills, and physical demands of the sport.
• Knowledge of or experience working with diverse learners, including students with learning disabilities such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, autism, or executive functioning challenges
• Ability to teach concepts in multiple ways and willingness to implement multi-modal teaching strategies and Universal Design into lessons and practices
• Provide athletic coaching and skill instruction to a wide range of athletic abilities
• Strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills
• High regard for sportsmanship, ethical and fair play, character development, and academic achievement
• Appreciation and understanding of the role of intercollegiate activities in education and personal development
• Ability to collaborate with stakeholders, including athletics department, other departments on campus, and outside groups, individuals, and organizations
• Commitment to a safe, fun, welcoming, and inclusive learning and playing environment; promote a sense of team among athletes
• Able to connect with student athletes and potential athletes, and recruit athletes from our student body and prospective students
• Encourage student leadership (formal and informal) and role model appropriate behavior
• Ability to work as a team with Assistant Coach, delegate roles to student leaders, communicate expectations and schedule with students, Athletic Staff, Health Services, Student Conduct Board
• Strong organizational skills
• Keep frack of attendance, paperwork, receipts, file conduct reports
• Ability to use email, Microsoft Office, and other tech tools to support work
• CPR/AED and First Aid certified or ability to obtain certification
• Valid driver's license and motor vehicle record which is free from major violations, or a pattern of repeat violations

Work Environment:
General campus, office, athletic facilities, fitness center, and outdoor environments. Travel is required for this position. Afternoon, evening, and weekend hours required.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, and sit for prolonged periods of one hour or more, as well as occasionally jog/run; use hands to touch and handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; drive a college vehicle. Employee must have the ability to lift, carry, and/or drag loads weighing up to 50 pounds. On occasion, this position may require laborious physical demand and exposure to extended periods in heat/frigid temperatures.
