Description

DESCRIPTION: Responsibilities include the overall management of the women’s softball program including coaching, the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in a rigorous academic environment, scheduling, budget management and travel. The coach will be responsible for directing and supervising the operations of the softball program within the rules and regulations of the NCAA, CIAA, the athletics department, and Claflin University in the development and successful administration of a competitive intercollegiate women’s softball program. The successful candidate must be fully committed to student-athlete academic success and student-athlete health and welfare.

Principle Accountabilities

• Manage daily operations and supervise all administrative facets of the softball programs;
• Strategic recruitment of prospective student athletes to meet roster management, retention and graduation rate goals set forth by athletic administration;
• Budget management and fiscal accountability of the softball program
• Insure the health, safety and welfare of student-athletes
• Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to the sport;
• Management of uniforms and equipment, including purchase, assignment and maintenance;
• Game scheduling and management of game contracts
• Planning and management of team travel including transportation, lodging and meals.
• Planning and directing all aspects of practice, individual and team meetings
• Scouting opponents and preparing game plans; management of competition, including game strategy, player and coaching personnel, and bench and on-field decorum;
• Management and guidance of student-athletes in academia in concert with Athletic Academic Advisor and Faculty Athletic Rep;
• Creating a safe and comfortable athletic and professional environment for student-athletes and with other athletic department staff;
• Compliance with policies and rules of the NCAA, the CIAA, the Athletics Department and Claflin University;
• Contribute to the overall success of the athletics department by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or their designee

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required; Master’s degree preferred; minimum of three years of coaching experience at the collegiate level required, head collegiate coaching experience preferred; demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and a commitment to the academic development of student-athletes required. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff, faculty, students, parents and alumni from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
