Position Summary: Primary responsibilities of the Head Spirit Squad Coach/Asst. Competitive Cheer Coachinclude, but are not limited to: the overall operation and success of the Presbyterian College Spirit Squad program; ensuring safety and well-being of athletes; providing principled leadership to athletes; identifying and successfully recruiting qualified athletes; promoting athlete development and academic success; ensuring sound management in matters of athlete conduct; establishing optimal team performance and program management; budgeting and ensuring fiscal responsibility; and other duties as assigned. Duties and Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and administer all aspects of the spirit squad & mascot program. Provide principled leadership that promotes health and well-being of student-athletes, competitive success, positive attitudes, successful outcomes, strong working relationships, a positive work environment, and a positive student-athlete experience. Encourage and promote an environment within the spirit squad program which places equal and high value on: Ensuring student-athlete health and well-being. Academic achievement. Providing a positive student-athlete experience. Encourage and promote excellence in academics and retention Plan and direct spirit squad program’s recruiting program consistent with annual student-athlete matriculation expectations and roster management needs; Identify and matriculate academically qualified student-athletes who are also persons of character and strong moral values. Council, advise and mentor student-athletes. Prepare and operate within the program’s operational and recruiting budgets and adhere to institutional and department budget policies and procedures; Plan spirit program events. Engage in public relations activities, fund raising and positively promote the spirit squad program, the athletic department and the college with the alumni, general public, community and media. Coordinate public appearances for spirit programs and the Scotty mascot to promote the PC brand. Maintain a visible and positive presence within and among the campus and local communities. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or his designee. The Head Competitive Cheer Coach is the supervisor for Spirit Squad Head Coach/Asst. Competitive Cheer Coach. Maintain roster numbers as agreed upon by Director of Athletics, VP for Enrollment Management, and Dean of Students. Assist Head Competitive Cheer Coach in recruiting, planning, practice implementation
o Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. o High school, college or professional coaching experience.o Strong leadership and communication skills. o Be a person of character and possess strong moral values.
AACA (American Association of Cheerleader Coaches & Administrators) Certification preferred
