About Us:
Colorado College (“CC”) is a private, four-year, highly selective liberal arts college of 2,100 undergraduate students and a small master of arts in teaching program. It is located on a 99-acre campus adjacent to downtown, ‘Olympic City’, Colorado Springs. The campus sits on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. The college operates an innovative curricular approach, known as the Block Plan, which entails students taking one course at a time for three and a half weeks, with the academic year divided into eight “blocks.” The Colorado College Department of Athletics sponsors 17 varsity programs. Fifteen programs compete at the
NCAA
Division
III
level and two at the Division I level. Division
III
programs are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (
SCAC
), with the exception of Men’s Lacrosse (independent) and Women’s Lacrosse (
WIAC
affiliate). Division I Men’s Hockey is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (
NCHC
) and Division I Women’s Soccer competes as an affiliate member of the Mountain West Conference (
MWC
).
Position Summary:
Responsible for the overall management of Colorado College’s competitive Division
III
Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving program to include coaching, training, recruiting and providing leadership while upholding the mission of the department and the institution. Responsibilities for this position include recruit and retain prospective student athletes, prepare and manage the annual budget, organize and administer the appropriate duties to include scheduling, travel and contracting officials, teach team and individual skills connected with team and student-athlete development, hire, manage and evaluate assistant coaches and program staff, support and actively contribute to the goal of achieving greater diversity, inclusion and equity at Colorado College and work effectively with all members of the campus community and work with staff members to develop community outreach programs, correspond with alumni and engage in fundraising and promotion of Colorado College. This position also serves as the Aquatics Director, managing Schlessman Natatorium.

$75,000 to $85,000 per year
The pay range reflects base pay for positions in a given pay band across the college. Individual rates are determined within the range by factors including one’s qualifications, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same band and department budget. Duties as Head Coach:
Recruit and retain prospective student athletes while adhering to the philosophy of Colorado College and the appropriate
NCAA
Division
III
and conference rules.
Effectively teach, coach and train student-athletes to help facilitate their improvement as athletes and as people.
Work with your sport administrator in consultation with the Director of Athletics to identify clear vision, strategy and goals for the Swim and Dive program.
Administer the Swim and Dive program within the rules and policies of Colorado College, the conference and the
NCAA
, and conduct the program within the high ethical standards of the college and the Athletics Department.
Work with the sport administrator and the budget manager to prepare and manage the annual budget with the goal of operating a balanced budget.
Organize and administer the appropriate pre-season, in-season, and post-season duties to include but not limited to scheduling, making travel arrangements and contracting officials for home competition.
Promote an environment and relationships with students, athletes, prospective students, and the Athletics Department staff that reflects inclusion and respect for diversity and equitable practices.
Work with the sports performance conditioning staff to insure a commitment to the health and safety of the studentathletes.
Hire, manage and evaluate assistant coaches and program staff.
Work with staff members to develop community outreach programs, correspond with alumni and engage in fundraising and promotion of Colorado College.
Assist with home event management of athletic events as needed.
Duties as Aquatics Director:
Oversee and secure lifeguards and other student workers for Schlessman Natatorium.
Manage the Schlessman Natatorium master schedule.
In consultation with the Assistant AD for Facilies and Operations, implement and keep current the written facility usage policy and fee structure and generate contracts and other documentation related to external use of the Natatorium.
Work with groups within and outside the Colorado College community to schedule events in Schlessman Natatorium.

A Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of three years of swim coaching experience at the collegiate or comparable level; experience with effective leadership, coaching and recruiting skills; excellent communication, interpersonal and managerial skills; demonstrated ability to recruit qualified student-athletes, and ability to teach and mentor a diverse student body. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier. Must be able to travel extensively, via ground transportation as well as air travel. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse constituents and from different cultural backgrounds. Ability to develop antiracism terminology and language.
Master’s Degree; five or more years of successful collegiate Swim coaching experience; familiarity with issues in higher education and demonstrate techniques and a coaching philosophy appropriate for a Division
III
liberal arts institution.
