The Head Coach is expected to recruit student-athletes that can be successful academically, socially, and athletically at St. Thomas University. The Head Coach is required to meet a minimum roster of 15 men and 15 women or more unique student-athletes. The position requires the Head Coach to instruct, train, and prepare the student-athletes for tournament competition, schedule intercollegiate bowling competitions using the United States Bowling Congress-Collegiate schedule. Monitor student-athlete academic progress to ensure compliance and eligibility to compete.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruiting
Identify, evaluate, and recruit a minimum of 30 team members and recording all transactions in Front Rush
Be compliant with STU Athletic Department and USBC-Collegiate recruiting policies and procedures
Coordinate athletic scholarship awards in cooperation with the Director of Athletics, Compliance Coordinator, Office of Admissions, and Office of Financial Aid

Coaching/Training
Instruct, teach, train, and coach student-athletes during practice and competition
Conduct video analysis and instruction as a teaching and preparation tool
Plan practice and tournament strategies
Knowledge of bowling equipment (balls, shoes, supplies) and ability to read and understand USBC Collegiate competitive lane oil patterns

Administration
Ensure ongoing academic and social eligibility of student-athletes
Provide competition schedule with a minimum of eight tournaments (ideally four Tier I and four Tier II tournaments)
Create and manage the team budget and all logistics for travel, accommodations, tournament fees
Identify and develop fundraising opportunities to support and sustain a competitive bowling team
Oversee the management and maintenance of the STU Bowling Center; coordinate work schedules; manage the lane oil machine and oil patterns
Purchase competition uniforms, supplies, and equipment necessary to have a successful program
Serve as the primary spokesperson for the STU Menâs & Womenâs Bowling Team
Represent STU with the United States Bowling Congress-Collegiate, National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association, and others as defined by STU
Work with the STU Sports Information Director to provide accurate data on individual and team accomplishments, and tournament results
Maintain and review the STU Bowling Team website and social media
Provide reports and documentation as require by the Director of Athletics

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:

Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
Minimum requirement: Bachelorâs Degree
Three yearsâ experience coaching travel leagues, youth, college/university student-athletes or equivalent experience
Experience recruiting and retaining student-athletes
Valid driverâs license
Significant travel requirements to recruit and participate in tournament competitions
Flexible full-time schedule with weekend and evening hours required
Demonstrated teamwork and team building skills
Ability to work independently
Strong communication and leadership skills
Obtain all appropriate clearances required by St. Thomas University

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Â
Proven ability to recruit and retain quality student-athletes
Five years or more coaching experience
USBC Bronze, Silver, or Gold trained bowling coach
Knowledge of lane oil patterns and lane oil machine usage
Familiarity with USBC-Collegiate rules and regulations
Experience bowling at the collegiate level
Experience at mid-sized, faith-based institution, and alignment with the Catholic mission
