Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential Job Functions

1. Schedule fall and spring games
   
2. Schedule officials for games
   
3. Schedule and conduct regular practice sessions in and out of season, as allowed
   
4. Scout and recruit quality student-athletes and coordinate recruiting activities by
   

working with appropriate college staff to assist in the recruiting process

1. Monitor the academic progress of each volleyball student-athlete and arrange for
   

tutoring or other support services when needed

1. Review academic schedules
   
2. Order equipment and supplies and maintain inventory controls as required
   
3. Make travel arrangements
   
4. Monitor budget and account totals
   
5. Be familiar with NJCAA, FCSAA Rules and institutional policies and procedures
   
6. Promptly report any suspected violation (including possible violations committed
   

personally, by students, or by any other member of the athletics department staff)
of NCJAA, FCSAA, Sun-Lakes Conference or College rules to the Office of Student
Affairs.

1. Assist Athletic Director in eligibility determination, tracking, and reporting for
   

players

1. Work closely with the athletic training staff to ensure the safety of all student-
   

athletes

1. Maintain full compliance with College, NJCAA, State, and Conference regulations
   

Marginal Job Functions

1. Promote volleyball program internally and externally
   
2. Provide Athletic Director with early registration, fall and spring rosters
   
3. Oversee maintenance of gymnasium
   
4. Attend all department staff meetings as required
   
5. Maintain current CPR and First Aid Certifications
   

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Ability to read the English language sufficiently to process all paperwork required.
   
2. Ability to receive telephone calls from the public, respond to inquiries and communicate
   

with co-workers and others by telephone.

1. Knowledge of or ability to learn relevant computer programs used (e.g. Microsoft Office,
   

Banner and Explorer).

1. Knowledge of Sun-Lakes Conference, State, and National Junior College Athletic
   

Association volleyball rules and regulations.

1. Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately, with minimal direct
   

supervision, within four months after employee begins work.

Other Ergonomic Requirements

This position is a physically demanding job. Parts of this job may require lifting or carrying
heavy equipment weighing a maximum of approximately 30 pounds. Some amount of
stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, jumping, walking, and other movements may be
required. Many tasks associated with coaching are performed while standing. Must have the
ability to stand for up to three hours. Tasks such as working at a computer keyboard or
typewriter, cutting, labeling, and taping involve extensive wrist and hand movements.

Qualification Standards

1. Education – Bachelor’s Degree, Masters preferred.
   
2. Experience – A minimum of two years coaching experience. A comparable amount of
   training or playing experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
