Summary/Objective:
The Head Women’s Basketball Coach administers and manages all aspects of American University’s NCAA Division I women’s basketball program within the rules and regulations of the University, the Patriot League, and the NCAA.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for the preparation and execution of practices and preparation for game competition in order to develop a competitive team. Responsible for providing leadership to assistant coaches and players concerning tactical and technical strategies. Oversees scouting opponents including analyzing statistics, strategies and personnel with coaching staff to formulate a clear game plan to be conveyed to student-athletes.
Responsible for directing all recruiting efforts of program including identifying needs each year and identifying potential student athletes to fill needs in order to attract quality players to the program. Responsible for program’s operation within NCAA rules. Responsible for working with compliance office to communicate with Admissions and Financial Aid Offices.
Assist academic counselors to monitor student-athletes’ progress in classwork to ensure academic progress towards degree completion. Establish fundamental importance of academic success and its positive/integral relationship with the success of the women’s basketball program.
Perform duties in conjunction with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations as it relates to publicity, fundraising, and alumni relations for both the women’s basketball program and athletic department as a whole in order to promote the team and the university.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree.
5-8 years of relevant experience.

After hours and weekend work frequently required to attend games and related athletic events.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Commitment and ability to maintain and exhibit the highest standards of ethical conduct.
Previous experience as a basketball athlete at the collegiate or professional level.
Ability to plan practice and instruct sport specific skills and strategy.
Ability to assess performance following athletic competition, identifying strengths and weaknesses and making adjustments to improve future performance.
Knowledge of and ability to work within NCAA and Patriot League regulations.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to travel with athletic teams to be available at sporting events.
Ability to create a positive team culture and support student-athletes on academic, athletic, and personal issues.
