Position Information:
Mayville State University is seeking candidates for a Head Women's Basketball Coach. This is a twelve-month, benefit eligible position. The purpose of this position is to support and enhance the direction of the Mayville State University Athletic Department and the Women’s Basketball program. As the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, the incumbent will be responsible for oversight and administration of all aspects of the Women’s basketball program which will include coaching, recruiting, player development, fundraising, compliance, budget management, and developing a positive culture. This role is also responsible for overseeing the Mayville State University Wellness Center.
Mayville State University competes in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) of the NAIA. MaSU currently offers eight (8) sports; four (4) for men and four (4) for women. Mayville State is located between Fargo, ND and Grand Forks, ND.
Key Competencies:
The Head Women's Basketball Coach is responsible for all administrative and organizational aspects of operating the women's basketball program within the mission of the University and its philosophy of intercollegiate athletics.
The head women's basketball coach will guide and actively encourage student-athletes to succeed academically, acquire a degree and represent Mayville State University with the highest integrity.
The coach is also responsible for budget development and administration, recruitment of student-athletes, Conference and Mayville State University regulations regarding recruiting, admission standards and eligibility, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, the scheduling of athletic practices and contests.
The head coach will play a major role in fundraising activities and serve as a representative of the University to the outside community when appropriate.
Must have a strong commitment to the development and success of student-athletes.
Must have exemplary ethical conduct and a commitment to follow all applicable Conference rules and regulations.
Must have the ability to work effectively in a collaborative effort to maintain the mission, vision and objectives of the athletics department.
Job Duties:
Supervision of assistant coaches and or student work/interns with responsibilities for the overall operation of the program.
Coordinate all coaching assignments for the entire basketball coaching staff including film breakdown, on court responsibilities and all administrative responsibilities with regards to team and recruiting travel.
Supervision of all student-athletes in a coordinated and planned program of practices and competition, with a concern for the players' health and welfare, physical and psychological preparation.
Responsible for recruiting academically and athletically qualified student-athletes to meet Mayville State University’s admission standards and enrollment goals.
In cooperation with the Athletic Director, uphold all Mayville State University academic policies and assist, when appropriate, in counseling student-athletes relative to academic success, progress and enforce University and athletic department policies and regulations regarding the use/abuse of alcohol and drugs by team members.
Foster and maintain positive student body and faculty relations with student-athletes eligibility.
Participate in public relations and promotions activities.
Knowledge of and adherence to all University and Conference Rules and Regulations, Policies and Procedures with special attention to recruiting, eligibility, admissions and financial aid.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Three years of previous experience coaching at the collegiate level
Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel as required
Knowledge and skill to evaluate and assess student-athletes’ skills and abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree
Previous head coaching experience
Previous experience at a scholarship institution
