The individual must have strong knowledge of and previous coaching experience in the sport and must have strong written and verbal communication skills. In addition, the individual must have practical knowledge and skill in the use of various forms of office software and other applicable applications that assist in recruitment, communication, and organization of the sport.
Previous collegiate-level coaching experience is required.
DUTIES AND OTHER JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES
Must build and maintain their sport and develop a culture which expects excellence in the classroom, competition, and character of the student-athletes under their supervision.
Must be a team player who demonstrates emotional intelligence and the ability to cooperate, work, and communicate clearly and honestly with administration, coworkers, subordinates, and/or outside contacts at a high level while maintaining a positive and coachable attitude.
Must provide excellence in leadership by developing and communicating a strong vision for the program and implementing that vision. This area would encompass “self-leadership” in that the coach is continuing to sharpen themselves while leading the team.
Must develop the character of the team by promoting a team culture which produces men and women of character. This is accomplished by mentoring and promoting personal growth in the areas of scripture reading, prayer, leadership within the SEU community, and service to the community at-large.
Must be competitive by developing and maintaining a program which shows improving and sustained competitive excellence within the Sun Conference and the NAIA.
Must build a foundation for academic excellence by setting and maintaining high expectations for team and individual GPA, retention, and graduation; including the implementation of academic support for student-athletes who may struggle in the classroom.
Must stay within budget by managing the program and staying within the limits set for the team at the beginning of the fiscal year, both operationally and in the awarding of scholarships.
Must promote acceptable conduct of the student-athletes in their program by maintaining high expectations for team conduct in the residence halls, off campus, during team travel, and competition and have a team who responds to those expectations. This includes building a culture where appropriate sportsmanship is displayed, and inappropriate language and on-the-field behavior is not tolerated.
Must recruit mission-fit student-athletes who compete at a high level and display a history of academic success.
Must exhibit professional behavior during practice and competition, attention to deadlines, good communication, and regular attendance while adhering to athletic department policy.
Will be expected to raise funds in support of their program.
Must be familiar with appropriate rules and regulations and maintain compliance with the bylaws of the NAIA and The Sun Conference and report any violations to the Director of Athletics.
Must seek opportunities to enhance their knowledge of their sport by way of attendance at coaches’ clinics and looking for other professional development opportunities.
Must maintain an inventory of all team equipment, supplies and uniforms, and implement a system for the return of all appropriate team equipment at the end of the year.
Must administer a study hall program within the overall philosophy of the department and with the approval of the Director of Athletics.
Must supervise assistant coaches and other team personnel.
Must attend all staff meetings.
Must exhibit evidence of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Must supports and uphold the philosophies and policies of both Southeastern University and the Southeastern Athletic Department.
Performs all other duties assigned by the Director of Athletics.
