SUMMARY:
Lawrence Technological University, an NAIA Institution and member of the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference is accepting applications for Head Women’s Basketball Coach. This position will report to the Director of Athletics. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach supports the mission of the college by leading and managing all aspects of the women’s basketball program, developing and executing effective coaching strategies, recruiting talented student-athletes and retaining them, overseeing team practices and games, fostering a positive team culture, manage operating budgets, and ensuring the overall success and growth of the program. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach provides the strategic oversight, supervision, guidance, and leadership to the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coaches. They will serve as a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
JOB DUTIES:
· Evaluate, recruit, coach and mentor qualified student-athletes and prepare the team for a full intercollegiate women’s basketball experience.
· Oversee all aspects of the women’s basketball program operations, including, but not limited to, the development and management of all part-time, volunteer, and student assistant coaching staff.
· Develop and execute a comprehensive recruitment plan for the entire women’s basketball staff, ensuring a robust and competitive roster from local, regional, and national landscape.
· Ensure a culture of compliance around all NAIA, WHAC, and Lawrence Technological rules and regulations and ensure all coaching staff members and student-athletes do the same.
· Oversee student-athlete academic progress, be available for consultation/support for studentathletes and direct student-athletes to the appropriate academic professionals to ensure academic success.
· Travel for conference and/or national meetings and fundraising, alumni and community events.
· Develop yearly, non-conference, game schedules to ensure high-level competition in preparation post-season.
· Select and purchase all equipment necessary to ensure a competitive women’s basketball program while being fiscally responsible.
· Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and other coaches to work on a on court schedule that works for everyone.
· Work closely with Yellowflag Productions and our Sports Information Director to develop a media plan and be available for interviews and speaking engagements to internal and external constituents.
· Serve on departments and campus-wide committees as requested, as well as other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversight of full, part-time, graduate assistants, and volunteer coaches
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Three to five years of coaching experience in the collegiate setting and/or at a highly respected high school program. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to work non-traditional hours, including late night and weekends. Enthusiasm and willingness to develop, initiate, and actively recruit, retain, and develop student-athletes. Commitment to work and educate inclusively with a diverse student population. Sound administrative and supervisory skills.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to type and use computer programs such as word processing (MS Office Suite preferred), e-mail, spreadsheets, and the ability to learn other programs pertinent to the position. Must be organized and be able to prioritize work, good communication skills, both written and oral, ability to deal with people from various age groups, backgrounds and level of education.
COMMENTS:
Hours may vary depending upon work assignment. This position requires the employee to perform some responsibilities off campus. While acting as a representative of Lawrence Technological University, it is important that the employee be knowledgeable and professional. Communication skills (both oral and written), organizational skills, and the ability to handle changing priorities are essential for success in this position. This position may require working evenings and some weekends (Saturday and/or Lawrence Technological University (LTU) conducts pre-employment screening on initial candidates for all positions, which may include but is not limited to, a criminal background check, verification of academic credentials, license, certifications, and/or verification of work history. Sunday) especially during peak times of campus activity. Vacation time may not be approved during said peak activity.
