Rockford University is accepting applications for the position of Head Coach Women’s Basketball. The coach is responsible for the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student athletes, supervision of coaching staff, practice planning, player skill/leadership development, fiscal responsibility and alumni cultivation. The coach is expected to demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship and conduct becoming of the coaching profession. The coach is expected to annually review any rule changes relative to the sport and to always adhere to all rules, regulations and policies of NCAA Division III and the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference.

The Head Coach is responsible for the direction and organization of the Rockford University women’s basketball program. The coach is responsible for the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student athletes, supervision of coaching staff, practice planning, player skill/leadership development, fiscal responsibility and alumni cultivation. The coach is expected to demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship and conduct becoming of the coaching profession. The coach is expected to annually review any rule changes relative to the sport and to always adhere to all rules, regulations and policies of NCAA Division III and the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
• Organize and conduct an appropriate number of practice sessions and direct all activities during contests.
• Coach team members, individually and in groups, and demonstrate game techniques.
• Develop and implement game strategy and position assignments.
• Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes to support the image and reputation of the athletics program.
• Provide an environment that supports the achievement of the academic goals of the student athlete.
• Recruit quality prospective student-athletes and ensure timely submission of their academic records for admissions.
• Includes identifying prospective student-athletes, evaluating high school prospects, and maintaining an accurate records and database in Front Rush.
• Responsible for meeting the college-identified annual recruiting goal for the program.
• Prepare a schedule of contests and team activities in conjunction with the director of athletics that complies with departmental policies, goals and objectives
• Coordinates the scouting and video film online exchange.
• Administer the sport budget in a fiscally responsible manner; submit all purchase requests to the director of athletics for prior approval. Develop program’s fundraising strategies.
• Coordinate team travel, housing and meals and submit a travel itinerary prior to the start of each season.
• Responsible for the distribution, collection and purchasing of athletic equipment and supplies.
• Manage the development and coordination of community service projects for team members.
• Cultivate alumni groups associated with the program in conjunction with the office of alumni programs.
• Complete other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience playing and/or coaching, particularly at the Division III level preferred.
• Position specific knowledge of the game.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and diversity.
• Availability for night and weekend work/travel.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
• 3-5 years college coaching experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and personal automobile insurance. Must meet insurability requirements as set by the University’s insurance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical and mental demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions. While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, and kneel. The incumbent may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employees work in a professional office environment that is highly visible to members and the college community. Normal office conditions prevail. Office work is performed primarily indoors.
