POSITION SUMMARY

The Head Women’s Flag Football Coach is responsible for building and leading Westminster University's Women’s Flag Football program. During Year one, this is a part-time position focused primarily on recruiting a roster of 15 student-athletes and establishing the program's operational foundation. In Year two, the position transitions to full-time with benefits and assumes responsibility for coaching, student-athlete development, competitive operations, and the continued growth of the program. The head coach reports to the Director of Athletics and manages the program in alignment with all institutional, conference, and national governing body rules and regulations.

POSITION STRUCTURE AND COMPENSATION

Year 1 (Oct 2026 – June 30, 2027): Part-time appointment with an annual salary of $21,500. The primary performance objective is to recruit a roster of 11-15 student-athletes for the program's first competitive season beginning in Fall 2027.

Year 2 (July 1, 2027 – June 30, 2028): Continue part-time appointment with an annual salary of $45,000, contingent upon successful completion of the Year 1 recruiting and program-development objectives.

Year 2 staffing: $10,000 allocated budget for assistant coaches.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and execute a Year 1 recruiting plan that produces a roster of 11-15 student-athletes, including prospect identification, outreach, follow-up, campus visits, and coordination with Admissions.
• Plan and lead safe, organized, and effective practices that develop individual skills, team strategy, conditioning, and competitive readiness.
• Provide coaching and leadership in practices, competitions, tournaments, and other team activities.
• Establish clear team expectations and foster a positive, inclusive, accountable, and student-centered culture.
• Maintain an active recruiting pipeline beyond the inaugural roster to support sustainable enrollment, roster depth, and year-to-year retention.
• Support the retention and development of team members through regular communication, mentorship, and attention to academic and personal well-being.
• Coordinate the competitive schedule, tournament entries, facility needs, officials, and team travel in collaboration with staff.
• Develop and manage the program budget; monitor expenses, purchasing, dues, fundraising, and equipment needs in accordance with university procedures.
• Maintain accurate team rosters, eligibility information, participation records, waivers, travel documents, and other required program records.
• Ensure practices, travel, and competitions follow university risk-management expectations and applicable Flag Football safety and competition standards.
• Beginning in Year 2, hire, supervise, and develop one part-time assistant coach and any approved volunteer assistant coaches; define clear roles, expectations, and responsibilities for all program staff.
• Collaborate with Athletics, Admissions, Marketing and Communications, facilities, and other campus partners to support recruiting, program operations, and visibility.
• Represent Westminster University professionally and promote sportsmanship in all interactions with students, families, opponents, officials, and the public.
• Complete required training and meetings and comply with all university, Athletics, and Club Sports policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

This position requires an irregular schedule that includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel. The coach must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, move and set up equipment, and actively participate in practices and competitions as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent; master’s degree is preferred.
• Previous Flag Football coaching experience or significant competitive playing experience; collegiate coaching experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Flag Football rules, strategies, skill development, and accepted safety practices.
• Demonstrated ability to teach, motivate, mentor, and build positive relationships with college students.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to plan and manage multiple responsibilities, including scheduling, travel, budgets, equipment, and team communication.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively while demonstrating sound judgment and high ethical standards.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification before the start of team activities.
• Valid driver's license and the ability to meet university requirements for driving university or rental vehicles, if driving is assigned.
• Ability to successfully complete required background screening and university training.
• Professional demeanor and ability to work effectively with students, families, staff, faculty, administrators, opponents, officials, and the public.
