Job Description:

The Head Women's Flag Football Coach/Assistant Football Coach is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for all aspects of a competitive women's flag football program. This includes starting and building the program, organizing and conducting practices and games, developing and implementing recruiting strategies, and supporting the retention and academic success of student-athletes.

In addition to leading the women's flag football program, the individual will serve as an Assistant Football Coach. In this role, they will assist in the evaluation, recruitment, training, and coaching of student-athletes to compete successfully against the highest level of NCAA Division III Football within the MASCAC. Responsibilities also include assisting with the overall management and administration of the football program.

Both roles include responsibilities related to program operations, including compliance with the program budget, recruiting, monitoring academic progress of student-athletes, fundraising, equipment room duties, and the training and performance development of student-athletes.

Salary range: $62,000-$68,000 per year, commensurate with experience. The College offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement contributions, and generous paid time off. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position.

Position responsibilities include:

Women's Flag Football

• Identify, recruit, and retain student-athletes who align with the mission and values of Dean College while fostering a strong and positive team culture within a newly established program.
• Lead the launch and day-to-day operations of a women's flag football program in its inaugural year, building foundational structure, culture, and expectations for future competitive elevation.
• Ensure adherence to all applicable institutional policies and any relevant club sport governing guidelines, while preparing the program for potential future transition to higher levels of competition.
• Design and implement effective practice plans that introduce fundamental skills, develop player growth, and establish team cohesion appropriate for a first-year program.
• Support student-athletes' academic success by guiding them in their educational goals, monitoring academic progress, and promoting accountability throughout the year.
• Collaborate with the Vice President of Athletics & Recreation to coordinate schedules for competition, including identifying opponents and organizing game opportunities.
• Assist in developing and managing an annual zero-based operational budget for the club program, ensuring responsible financial oversight and alignment with institutional priorities.
• Partner with campus leadership and applicable compliance personnel to ensure alignment with institutional expectations and maintain eligibility standards where applicable.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of Dean College policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with institutional standards.
• Purchase necessary equipment and supplies while following established departmental and institutional procurement policies.
• Track and manage inventory of team-issued gear and uniforms, ensuring appropriate distribution and collection from student-athletes.
• Pursue professional development by attending relevant coaching clinics, workshops, and industry events to support the growth of a developing program.
• Coordinate with the Sports Information Director to promote the program, highlight student-athlete involvement, and support publicity efforts for a new sport.
• Work closely with Athletic Training and Sports Medicine staff (as applicable) to prioritize the health and well-being of student-athletes.
• Arrange travel and logistical needs for away games, including transportation, lodging (if applicable), and meal planning consistent with club sport parameters.
• Submit travel and participation plans in advance of events and communicate student participation and absences with athletics administration.
• Engage with alumni, student organizations, college leadership, and community partners to build awareness, interest, and support for the emerging program.
• Partner with campus facilities personnel to coordinate field usage, setup, and maintenance for practices and games.
• Assist in the coordination and execution of game-day operations for club events and hosted games.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned or required.

 

Football

• Support the head coach in executing the sports training and instructional program by providing skill-specific coaching, assisting with practice sessions, managing game-related responsibilities, and handling equipment room tasks.
• Effectively recruit prospective student-athletes as directed by the head coach.
• Collaborate with academic support staff to assist players in achieving their academic goals.
• Coordinate with athletic training and strength and conditioning teams to ensure proper player conditioning and rehabilitation.
• Assist with administrative responsibilities, including organizing fundraising and community service initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred.
• A minimum of three years of coaching experience at the collegiate level required, with experience in football and flag football strongly preferred.
• Ability to recruit and retain quality student-athletes, including experience or demonstrated ability to build and develop a new or emerging program such as women's flag football.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences.
• Ability and willingness to support Dean College's mission and to collaborate effectively within a team environment within the Athletics & Recreation Department.
• Strong commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy.
• Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner, including responsibility for launching and developing a new women's flag football program.
• Travel is required for recruiting and attending games, including activities related to both the football and women's flag football programs.
