Position Description & Details:

Bismarck State College is seeking a dynamic and student-focused Head Women’s Softball Coach / Exercise Science Instructor to lead our women’s softball program while inspiring students in the classroom. This unique opportunity combines athletic leadership, student-athlete development, recruitment, and teaching in Exercise Science.

 

The Head Coach will support the Director of Athletics in the overall operation of the athletics program, recruit and develop competitive student-athletes, and create a positive team culture built on sportsmanship, respect, academic success, and personal growth. As an Exercise Science Instructor, the successful candidate will teach 18 credits per calendar year through classroom and laboratory instruction, student mentoring, assessment, and curriculum development.

 

Key Responsibilities

Athletic Recruitment & Development 

• Recruit and develop a competitive Women’s Softball program and student-athlete roster.
• Support student-athletes with enrollment, academic programs, financial aid, and degree-completion needs.
• Partner with Athletic Academic Compliance and campus resources to promote academic eligibility and student success.
• Plan and supervise practices while teaching sport techniques, rules, strategies, and game tactics.
• Promote sportsmanship, respect, diversity, and a positive team culture.
• Coordinate league and tournament schedules in collaboration with the Director of Athletics.
• Manage the softball program budget and oversee equipment, uniforms, inventory, purchasing, repairs, and maintenance.

General Position –

• Teach 18 credits per calendar year, including classroom and laboratory instruction.
• Develop curriculum, mentor students, assess student learning, and collaborate with colleagues and community partners.
• Support student retention, maintain accurate records, and submit grades and assessments by established deadlines.
• Provide excellent service to students, staff, and visitors.
• Complete administrative responsibilities, including scheduling, correspondence, and recordkeeping.
• Support campus programs and events through planning and logistics.
• Collaborate across departments to enhance student success and operational effectiveness.
• Maintain confidentiality and effectively use college systems.
• Demonstrate commitment to Bismarck State College’s mission, vision, and values.
• Pursue opportunities for professional development and continuous improvement.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in exercise science, Master’s degree in Sports Management, or a master’s degree with at least 15 graduate credits in exercise science or a combination of education and equivalent experiences to be reviewed with application.
• Minimum 3 years’ coaching experience.
• Collegiate athletic recruiting experience.
• Effective public and interpersonal communication skills.
• Knowledge of softball competition, rules, and strategies per NAIA.
• Recruiting skills and coordination ability to assess athletic talent with knowledge of recruiting compliance and regulations.
• Leadership and motivational skills, and the ability to serve as a positive role model.
• The ability to market the College and its athletic program to potential students and the community.
• The ability to organize and implement fundraising projects.
• The ability to build and sustain successful intercollegiate athletic programs.
• The ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Collegiate Athletic Softball Head Coaching experience.
• Collegiate Athletic Softball coaching experience.
• Collegiate Athletic Social Media experience.
• Collegiate Athletic academic eligibility experience.

COMPENSATION: $56,652-$70,815 based on education and directly related experience; Exempt
