Position Summary
Wiley University seeks a disciplined, student-centered, and competitive Women’s Basketball Coach to provide leadership, instruction, recruitment, supervision, and overall management of the women’s basketball program. The Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for developing student-athletes academically, athletically, personally, and professionally while promoting the mission, values, and standards of Wiley University.
The successful candidate will be expected to build and maintain a competitive women’s basketball program that emphasizes academic success, character development, athletic excellence, compliance, sportsmanship, retention, and the overall well-being of student-athletes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Women’s Basketball Coach will:
Provide leadership and daily oversight for the women’s basketball program.
Plan, organize, and conduct practices, workouts, conditioning sessions, team meetings, and game preparation.
Coach student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team-related activities.
Recruit qualified student-athletes who align with the academic standards, athletic goals, and mission of Wiley University.
Build strong relationships with high school coaches, club coaches, community partners, alumni, and other recruiting contacts.
Monitor and support the academic progress, class attendance, retention, and graduation success of student-athletes.
Promote a team culture rooted in accountability, discipline, leadership, respect, sportsmanship, and academic achievement.
Ensure compliance with all University policies, athletic department procedures, conference rules, and applicable governing association regulations.
Coordinate team travel, scheduling, equipment, uniforms, practice plans, and game-day operations in collaboration with the Athletic Department.
Manage the women’s basketball program budget responsibly and in accordance with University procedures.
Supervise assistant coaches, graduate assistants, student workers, team managers, and other personnel assigned to the program.
Participate in fundraising, alumni engagement, community outreach, camps, clinics, and promotional activities that support the women’s basketball program and the Athletic Department.
Maintain accurate records related to rosters, eligibility, recruiting, scholarships, academic progress, travel, expenses, equipment, and student-athlete participation.
Work collaboratively with Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Athletics, Residence Life, and other campus offices to support student-athlete success.
Represent Wiley University professionally at athletic events, campus programs, community events, recruiting activities, and conference meetings.
Promote the safety, health, and well-being of student-athletes and ensure appropriate supervision during all team activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or appropriate University leadership.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Previous coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, club, or professional level required.
Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals, player development, practice planning, game strategy, recruiting, and team management.
Ability to recruit and retain student-athletes who can succeed academically and athletically at Wiley University.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to student-athlete academic success, personal development, discipline, and character formation.
Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, families, community members, and athletic personnel.
Knowledge of athletic compliance, eligibility requirements, and student-athlete conduct expectations.
Ability to manage travel, scheduling, equipment, budgeting, and administrative responsibilities.
Valid driver’s license required or ability to obtain one prior to employment.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required for practices, games, recruiting, and athletic department activities.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred.
Previous collegiate coaching experience strongly preferred.
Experience coaching women’s basketball at the college level.
Experience recruiting student-athletes in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and surrounding regions.
Experience working at an HBCU, small private institution, faith-based institution, or mission-centered university.
Knowledge of compliance standards for intercollegiate athletics.
Experience with fundraising, camps, community engagement, and alumni relations.
Appointment Type
This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. The position is subject to reappointment every 12 months based on performance, institutional need, funding, compliance with University expectations, and continued alignment with the mission and priorities of Wiley University.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
This position requires regular physical activity, including standing for extended periods, demonstrating basketball skills, attending practices and games, traveling with the team, lifting or moving equipment, and working in athletic environments. The role requires availability outside of normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel.
