Job Description

Assist with implementation and evaluation of SABG Grant to reduce alcohol use and related harm specific to students who compete in organized athletic teams (Sun Devil Athletics, Sport Clubs, and Intramural teams). Assists with program logistics, planning, implementation and evaluation of programs as outlined in the grant proposal. Involve coordinating logistics, planning of virtual and other student engagement activities, creation of supportive messaging, support ASU professional staff training needs to address underage, high-risk and RX misuse.

With direction from Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness and Sun Devil Athletics (SDA), this position will be responsible for the coordination of health promotion/prevention programs and services with a focus on alcohol and other drug prevention and overall student well-being using evidence informed/theory-based strategies. Note that providing education about alcohol and other drugs and planning alcohol free activities to increase access to non-drinking opportunities are included in the core responsibilities. Primarily housed at the Tempe location working within SDA. Requires travel to other Phoenix area campuses. Require some weekend and evening hours.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Work location is primarily at the Tempe campus; however, incumbent may be required to travel to off-campus events and other ASU campuses to perform work driving their own vehicle. This is a 20 hour per week position, and may include some nights and weekends, with flexible days and hours based on programming needs. This Internship program is a short term-position of a 12-month experience or less. An additional one-year extension may be offered contingent upon an annual review. Candidate is required to be enrolled in a Graduate Program during the duration of employment and continuation of employment will be based on enrollment in a Graduate Program.

Funding for this position will end on September 30, 2024.

Essential Duties

• Work to develop programming for small student groups that promote student wellbeing.
• Work in partnership with SDA Peer Health Educators and other key student roles to develop programming.
• Serve on SDA committees to assist in the development of SDA student wellbeing initiatives.
• Collaborate with ASU Educational Outreach and Student Services colleagues to provide programming and engagement opportunities for students involved in athletic programming at ASU.
• Create and disseminate wellbeing messages promoting safe ways to connect and build friendships, active bystander (upstander) behaviors, positive norms, and creative ways to build connections.
• Ensure communications align with ASU Community of Care, Off-Campus Housing, ASU Police, Community Police Departments, Educational Outreach and Student Services Marketing and Communications, Sun Devil Athletics, Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness, and Wellness and Health Promotion messaging.
• Collaborate with SDA administration and coaches to provide presentation/discussions sessions (virtual or in-person) addressing student wellbeing at least once a semester.
• Develop programming to include information about healthy community norms, expectations for taking care of themselves, each other and community, safety tips, alcohol and other drug education and program collateral.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
