PURPOSE
The Media Relations Assistant will work with assigned sports and assist the Assistant AD for Media Relations in covering the university’s 16 Division I intercollegiate athletic programs. The position will serve as the primary media contact for the assigned sports and help coordinate media efforts to cover athletic events.

DESCRIPTION
_ Functional Area 1: Media Relations _
_ Percent Effort: 75% _
Serve as the primary media relations contact for designated sports, which includes website maintenance
Help with the coordination and implementation of the department’s social media plan and strategy.
Create and edit various publications, including, but not limited to, digital graphics, game programs, revenue generation materials and special event collateral.
Work closely and collaboratively with external relations to a) enhance the visibility of the Islanders Athletic program in the conference, state and nationally, b) advance TAMU-CC mission, vision and branding, c) develop and implement printed and online materials aligned with Athletics design standards and TAMU-CC Brand and Style Guide.
Pitch and solicit stories while building relationships with local, regional, and national media including print, radio, TV, and internet media representatives.
Maintain current and historical statistics including records for assigned athletic teams.
Nominate student-athletes for athletic and academic awards within the university, conference and NCAA.
Organize all athletics photographs and supervise archiving of all video elements.
_ Functional Area 2: Game Day Operations _
_ Percent Effort: 15% _
Assist with the coordination of game day operations for several sports.
Recruit, train, supervise and schedule student-workers to help with gameday functions.
Responsible for live stat production at assigned primary sport coverage. (Genius, Statcrew, etc.)
_ Functional Area 3: Compliance _
_ Percent Effort: 5% _
Operate in an atmosphere of compliance, integrity, and within the scope and intent of NCAA, conference, and university regulations.
Support the head coach by completing compliance-related activities in a complete and timely manner.
Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations concerning student-athletes.
Maintains awareness of and supports initiatives of the Athletics Department.
_ Functional Area 4: Other Duties _
_ Percent Effort: 5% _
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, sports administration, or closely related field.
Two (2) years of related experience in athletics communications or sports writing
Additional education/experience may be considered as a substitute for the minimum qualifications: High school diploma/GED with six (6) years of related experience in athletics communications or sports writing, Associate's degree in communications, journalism, sports administration, or closely related field with four (4) years of related experience in athletics communications or sports writing OR a Master's degree in communications, journalism, sports administration, or closely related field.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree.
Demonstrated student-worker supervisory experience.
Strong knowledge of SIDEARM CMS or comparable website management software.
Experience with Adobe Premier or other video editing software. Live video streaming experience.
Intermediate skills in various computer programs including StatCrew, Genius, Photoshop and InDesign.
