Job Description

Internship Summary

This is an unpaid internship designed to provide a hands-on, educational experience for students interested in collegiate athletics. Interns will gain meaningful exposure to the operations of a Division I athletic department supporting 30 varsity programs at the United States Military Academy, the greatest leadership institution in the world.

Through training, mentorship, and guided participation, interns will work alongside full-time professionals and explore how a high-performing athletics department operates. The internship emphasizes learning, professional development, and career exploration, offering students a behind-the-scenes look at college athletics while building transferable skills for the future.

Interns in Sports Nutrition will gain exposure to overall sports nutrition counseling and information (i.e - pre/post meals and snacks, athlete performance plates, and proper supplementation) for Division 1 cadet athletes, while working closely with the Director of Performance Nutrition. Under supervision, interns will:

  • Assist the Director of Performance Nutrition in conducting current sports nutrition research to gain insight on current nutrition trends
  • Assist in stocking the nutrition fuel stations
  • Communicate with strength coaches, coaches, athletic trainers and administration
  • Create and conduct team nutrition education talks
  • Collaborate with assistant sports dietitian on creating and preparing weekly nutrition snacks to offer at the fuel station (i.e - overnight oats, energy balls, etc)
  • Develop professional writing skills through designing, implementing and effectively communicating a topic to promote health, lifestyle and/or nutrition message using informatics

These activities are intended to build research, communication, food service and fundamental sports nutrition skills, while introducing interns to the role a registered dietitian has within collegiate athletics.
